I’m happy with how it turned out! I wasn’t sure if the rod storage would be worth it, but I think I’ll be glad to have it.

This is generally how I glue, one side at a time, weighing it down to get maximum interaction with the outdoor glue. It has worked pretty well. I’m some instances I have to use staples to help hold the carpet, but on flat areas the adhesive works great and has a rock solid hold. These rod...

I’m not great at documenting the various steps of each piece with pictures, but this will give you some idea of my process for adding elements like the side support. 1. Work up a fairly specific design plan (usually in my head) 2. Create a template for the wood piece 3. Rough cut the wood and...

@Crazyboat The original configuration was a forward console, and since I couldn't shorten the steering cable (and didn't want to buy a new one), I was pretty limited with helm locations relative to forward/stern positions. For me the modifications have very much been about tradeoffs. Yes, it...

Cavitation Plate Lower Than Boat Bottom

Interesting! I’ve never heard this. Good to know if I ever have to repower.

Busy weekend but managed to get my first side strut rough cut.

Cavitation Plate Lower Than Boat Bottom

Yes it’s doable, and I recently addressed the same concern. Mine ran 2” low for years, but it ran fine. No “issue” from running at that height, but I wanted to see if I could improve performance by raising it. I built my own jack plate from 2.5” aluminum angle to raise the cavitation plate...

Found some spare pvc tube in my garage, so it looks like rod tubes are a-go!

Also starting the last of my structural additions. Tackling the port side reinforcement first, rear deck/seating will be last because I have no idea what to do there. For the side hull reinforcement, I got a mock up cut last night and the pen lines show that I’m seriously toying the idea of...

I was able to start wiring utility lights. I have both blue and white LEDs. The softer blue are for higher “deck” lighting and I’m keeping the whites lower. Blue on the bow deck. One white recessed under the steering console to have some helpful working lighting when I’m in the helm seat.

Well, I finally splashed the boat this past weekend to get some walleye fishing in! As soon as we get some nice weather I'll take comparison pictures of the paint job before & after. I put in a bunch of work to reinstall the interior and wiring to make it water-ready. I wasn't able to do any of...

@Weldorthemagnificent @airshot and @Kismet - thanks guys I really appreciate it! Here’s a few pictures of the jack plate. Outboard is now installed and at maximum height the cavitation plate sits perfectly in plane with the bottom of the hull. I’m interested to see how this changes the handing...

How to temporarily fill this gap in my floor/hull seam?

My first thought was thicker pipe foam or a pool noodle, cut in strips and wedged down, basically like filler rod (as mentioned by @jethro) but cut to fit the “V” shape a bit better. What problem do you see with using pipe foam?

Side console assembly goes in next. Fits between the steering console and boat hull, and slides into the existing bench support.

Most of the mods to-date I built as assemblies so the steering console installs next as an assembly and goes back on quite easy. The black angle brackets do screw to the deck but are only there as “stops” for the inner panel.

Thanks @airshot and @TriBull! Got a fair amount of reassembly done yesterday. I’m going to try and document the process a bit better. First step is installing the front deck.

Well, cleaning up the inside of the boat was absolutely the worst part of the entire process. 50 years of grime and grit didn’t come off easily. A colorful variety of words slipped out of my mouth. Thankful that is now behind me and I’m now able to start painting the inside. New transom board is...
