If good looking wood, why not stain and show it off ?? Can't beat good looking wood on a boat !!

Transom bolts - what kind to use?

Certain metals like brass react with aluminum quickly, like a year or two and it will corrode right thru. Good SS and alum will take near a life time. Even steel on alum will take longer than most folks keep their boat.. Treated lumber has changed the chemicals used a couple decades back. The...

Does Thompson's Water Seal contain chem. harmful to Alum. ??

Might be a good place for bed liner or body under coat material to create a protective barrier...

Transom bolts - what kind to use?

The salt itself will react to the aluminum over time, so you still loose.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

See the example MDCrappie showed, easy, simple and it should work. I would make it wider and longer to attach to the knee brace. Then again, I believe in overkill to be safe.

Trailer mods and a couple of questions

Your making good progress...after a few tries you will figure a routine, you might consider a " centering" roller at the back of the trailer, this will help get the boat centered. Being a lite weight tinnie, the wind can make it difficult at times, however, practice makes perfect, so get out...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Cause a problem...probably nothing serious, but your motor will not be effiecient. Wrong shaft length for the transom. As mentioned, loss of speed and issues in shallow water with prop hitting. Either go with a jack plate or have a riser welded/ bolted to the transom to get the motor higher...

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

Installation is the key to rivnuts ! If the rivnut goes into the drilled hole with slop, then the hole is to big ! I used 3/8" rivnuts (4) to hold my side steps on my Side x Side atv, people step on them to get in and out and they deflect trees and stumps when you get to close. Been holding...

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

I use them on my SidexSide and go thru mud and water. The trick is to put some grease on the threads of the screw and be sure the rivnut is tight !! I found my own tool gets them tighter than the commercial tool. Also be carefull when drilling the hole, it can't be sloppy, better snug fit...

What have you been up to lately?

Spent the last few days working on my zero turn lawnmower. The hydro drive units started acting up. Decided to change oil in the drive units, didn't realize they had to be removed to change the oil !! Was told at purchase they were serviceable units....they are not !! Of course the dealer...

    Mounting bow plate?

I totally understand your feeling on drilling holes in a new boat !! Back in 1980 we bought a new van and I customized it myself. Cutting away the side to add windows was one of the hardest decisions I ever made !!

    Yamaha 25hp 14ft semi-V rpm range question

You might try trimming the motor or change your load position, sounds like you not up on as high of plane at the lower rpm. On small boats people often need to shift things around to get proper balance and often need to have their guests sit in a spot they may not like, but needed to balance...

    Experienced opions on my setup

My 14' tinnie had no problem getting on plane with a 9.9 if the weight was properly spread out and balanced. You not gonna ski, but I could reach almost 18 mph and my starcraft was heavier than the posters.

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

Rivnut's are threaded inserts that you can insert into a blind hole, then collapse them and you have a set of threads for thinner materials. They do make a fancy tool to collapse them but you can also make your own from a bolt and a few nuts. I made my own tool, works fine.

    Alternative to Gluvit

Those seams never should have been sealed. The rivets are what was leaking. People don't understand how aluminum boats were put together so the just start filling any crack they can find. Those seams were designed to be open so tbose aluminum strakes could empty out trapped water. The rivets...
