I knew things were going to good /1992 2 stroke 40hp Yamaha

I may have to try that. I'm the second owner of my 2005 Silverado, which currently sits at 167,000 miles. Had it since 2012 or 2013 and honestly plan to drive it until it drops. I need to do a brake job sooner than later too.....as well as replace a few items in the front suspension system.

If you want to save a buck but still get quality stuff on the brake parts go buy from rockauto.com. I buy everything from them unless I specifically want to get the lifetime warranty stuff by Duralast from Autozone. I've even heard you can buy lifefetime warranty pads from Autozone and they will...

    1989 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3V

Those numbers are what I had in mind. I wish I had a good long shaft 25hp motor to try out though as that's what would ultimately go on it. I'm going to attempt to find an early 2000's Yamaha 25 3 cylinder, which is same motor as my 1988 30hp, to use for this rig but that may be tough to source...

I knew things were going to good /1992 2 stroke 40hp Yamaha

Basically a dial indicator on a mount is secured somewhere where the indcator is in contact with the prop shaft. Zero the gauge and rotate the prop shaft while the lower unit itself is fixed/stationary and record the max and min changes on the gauge (aka runout). There is a spec for the...

    1989 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3V

I may experiment a little with some chemicals. To a degree it can peeled off which sounds like a pain but may be easier in the long run.

Honestly though the latest pics of the gear oil look fine to me. I'd for sure pressure test it while its drained though and you need to remove the lower when you do it so you can access all of the seals when its done.

I knew things were going to good /1992 2 stroke 40hp Yamaha

I agree. I'd grab the prop shaft and trying moving it back an forth in all directions and see if you feel any play. If you can feel it then that isn't a good sign for your bearings. If it feels ok, then you could use a dial indicator and check for runout as you rotate the prop shaft.

    1989 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3V

I still need to update on the structural issues I have found but im going to hold off a bit longer. I removed the floor and a few other things for a better view and there are a lot of underlying issues with previously done poor repairs and other new cracks. I recently put on my Yamaha 30 and got...

I knew things were going to good /1992 2 stroke 40hp Yamaha

Does the motor run good? Kinda looks like unburnt fuel/oil mix that can get produced when one cylinder isnt firing or something like that. It will be medium brown like that in those cases. I've had it happen twice and both times looked like that and were due to spark failing under load due to...

    Merc 25XD

Ah, I see. I misread that. I have a 94 model that is remote. Not sure it will be apples to apples to yours but they were fairly similar from the 80s all the way til they basically did away with the 2 strokes in the late 2000s. I'll take a look and see what I can offer.

    Merc 25XD

Have any pics from under the cowling? I'd assume if it was a remote model at some point it will have what you need to hook up throttle and shift cables. It probably had an electrical connector too for remote start, kill, choke etc but a lot of times those get cut off and rewired when going from...

New Transom – 1976 Starcraft ‘Holiday 15’ Model

Dale, do you use the same epoxy you coat the transom board with to fill in the oversized fastener holes? How oversized do you go? Seems like 1/4-20 bolts, 3/8", and 1/2" bolts would be the most common you would see when replacing a transom.

    1989 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3V

Yeah lol. That's 140 lbs per person. Would be a tight squeeze with any more than 2 adults I bet. Im actually wanting this second boat because I have 4 kids - 9, 9, 4, and 1 yo so I don't have the real estate for everyone in my flatbottom. Right now most fishing trips are me plus the oldest 3 and...

    1989 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3V

I bough this 1989 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3V a couple of weeks ago as potential winter project. It is a 16' x 48" mod-v riveted hull. The boat is all aluminum aside from the transom and the hatch lids which is nice. It has two small ~10 gallon livewells, one at the rear of the front deck and the other...

    Outboard motor controls- compatibility

Are the new non-oem ones actually any good? I've been looking for some used Yamaha controls for my 1988 30hp but most are pretty junky or expensive.

    2003 Duracraft 1648 bass

Just my 0.02, but I've never noticed much difference between trimming down an aluminum boat like that for holeshot. I typically set it and forget for most of the day, the exception being tweaking the trim at WOT for the smoothest ride since very slight changes in chop can have a big impact on a...

    Outboard motor controls- compatibility

Does it have a Yamaha 703 style control box? I think you can take them apart and reverse the throttle push/pull mechanism. Yamaha reversed it sometime in the 90's I think. I would imagine you could probably make it work with a newer Yamaha with some fiddling. I doubt it would work with other...

    Fish Finder Mounting

I bought some 3M surface mount sip tie holders off Amazon recently. Put them on the transom on one boat to route the transducer wires. Can't speak to their quality though.

    1988 Fisher Marsh Hawk 3v & Evinrude E28ESLCCR Restoration/Rebuild

Awesome. Maybe down the road you can help me out.... mine did not include the console or steering system. I like to somewhat match the original console so maybe you could get some measurements for me sometime. I'll probably get to gutting mine before you dive in so I'll try to document that as...
