    What is this Goop?

Many companies like Sika, but even companies other than those selling boat products, make both 1-part and 2-part polysulfide-based (think 3M 5200) in gray or grey color. To me it looks like they used something like this …

Need to look inside an engine, down a drain or whatever? Endoscope for $11- not a trick!

FYI, I use mine hooked up to an old dedicated Google ‘tablet’ and it works slick! Here are some bore pictures. TIP - To improve mid-bore photos, drop or stuff a cotton ball down the barrel ahead of the b’scope so it reflects the light. A brush on a cleaning rod will snag it to get it out, on...

    Removing Gluvit

Coat over them ,,, but use West Systems G-Flex 650 ... it's cheaper and flexible! Note ANY epoxy product - if exposed to the sun - must be over-coated with paint, as UV kills uncovered epoxies.

Clear coat over Gluvit. Enamel or lacquer?

Epoxies need to be over-coated to shield it from UV rays ... not sure if the choice is lacquer or enamel as much as it is CLEAR vs COLORED. When I had a large offshore boat with many, many pieces of brightly finished teak brightwork, I epoxied them and then varnished over them with 4 to 6...

How to adjust free play in steering wheel?

Best to contact the steering cable & helm maker ... but how are you measuring that? They are gear driven, so yes there will be some 'slop' when switching directions ...

    Best pourable transom replacement product?

FWIW I used the CarbonCore when I poured my transom many years ago, It was heads & tails a superior product over Seacast. Details are in my Signature post of the 16' StarCraft.

Anyone recognize this 12 foot fiberglass hull and transom?

Looks like an old Sears … just remember, they didn’t build them …

    Winter battery storage

Yeah, yeah, i know all about Led Zepplie, LOL ... but you're forgetting about the OTHER hydrogen mix gases generated ... Hydrogen sulfide being just one, it is heavier than air, highly toxic, and extremely flammable. Whatever, people are free to do what they want.

    Winter battery storage

A friend just went through this, expressly for frigid Northern New England Winters, and while the chargers are capable of low temps there are cautions about the battery chemistry itself at low temps to freezing or below. He even called the 'Genius' battery charger maker and they said, "Yes, the...

What kind of lower unit oil?

OMC/Bombardier HPF Pro. This is the only LU gear oil recommended by Evinrude. The special formulation allows for a percentage of water intrusion to be be emulsified into the oil without damaging the internal gears and bearings, and to withstand the 300 hour service interval. Consider that a...

Part Wanted Can’t find year of boat

The problem is that Sears or Montgomery Ward or other ‘name brand retail stores’ did NOT makes the boats, where it was probably Elgin or some other company. Go to the link below and look up Elgin, but note they are listed under the fiberglass manufacturers, as they made both types of boats. In...

    Valco Jon Boat seam repair.

FWIW I find that the West System G-Flex 650 is superior to GluVit in that it is flexible and cheaper. And it is not thick or toothpaste-like a caulk product is, but is thin like GluVit. And online here I've posted a few W-S tutorials of repairs where you weep it in with the addition of a hair...

New Transom – 1976 Starcraft ‘Holiday 15’ Model

Yes, same mix, no thickener (cabosil) added. This transom was all 1/4" hardware, so likely 3/8"+ sized holes, nit sure if I mentioned it in photos above ... and didn't look.
