    Gas tank

The saddle bag arrangement did not enter my mine until you mentioned that set up. Thank you so much for that idea. That will take the strain from the motor pulling from any distance and I can add some wire to the trolling motor cables and still run it up front. I was intending to install a flat...

    Gas tank

The original tank was a metal behemoth that the previous owner let slide aound in front of the rear seat. My motor is an old Johnson 8 HP, I don't know if it will pull fuel from too awfully far, so I gave thought to putting it under the rear seat but that would (with me sitting there) put a lot...

    Gas tank

Gentlemen, I have a question. My Ark. Traveler has only 11 inches behind rear seat to transom, and I can't put my gas tank back there. So, I'm asking if it would be more prudent to find a way to put it under the middle seat and run gas line back along the side to the motor. I don't want it...

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

I wish there was a way that I could stand it up. Unfortunately there isn't. I can't even get it off the trailer, well, I could get it off, but I worry that I couldn't get it back on. My mind still thinks I'm 30 but truthfully I just turned 74.

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

A lot of my grief came from the fact that the original transom went all the way to the floor. It appeared that the transom was put in then the stern plate was installed and riveted because it was all the way up under the cap, and I destroyed the cap getting the rotten wood out. There is even 2...

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

I have been giving it a great deal of thought, and I am leaning toward the pourable epoxy. I'm thinking that that would seal all those damnable holes but I was going to put rivets in them anyway, I am going to watch that video in a bit. I appreciate all knowledgeable help.

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

That's part of my problem. The old transom was exactly 1 inch, but the way it fit up under that lip, I had to bend the lip out to get it out. The metal brace from the floor to the transom would not budge. It had screws in the transom, but where it met the floor appeared to have been welded.I can...

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

As I took the numerous screws out, it became quite apparent that whoever replaced it last time had used all these screws to pull it tight against the back. Each one went through the aluminum back and halfway through the plywood, and were sealed with an acrylic sealer as they were tightened. I...

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

The transom was exactly 1 inch on the inside of the boat. There was another piece outside that was another inch. I can deal with that later. I just need to get that one replaced inside so that I can start redoing the interior of the old girl.

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

I had not thought of that remedy. I will presume that you are talking about BLIND rivets, so now I need to find some of those. Big ones those screws were almost a quarter inch.

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

That's all I could get my hands on that wasn't $40.00 a sheet.

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

That is the best option I have seen so far. I have a lot to do to get the old girl water ready. I had to nearly demolish the lip that was over the transom to get it out, not to mention, a previous owner had drilled holes all the way aroud the stern and put screws in. I have to fill those holes...

    Ark. Traveler rebuild

Does anyone have any idea how to replace transom in '57 Ark. Traveler since 1 inch plywood is at both scare and a premium?

I thank all of you who answered. I will try and find out the year and model and go from there. Again...thank you all.

    decal

Can anyone here tell me how to find new "Name" decals for my little outboard? I've just tried the Evinrude site, and got no where.

    pictures of my boat

Ladies and gentlemen, I've been asked to post some photos of my boat for others to give me some insight on my work. HOWEVER, I only have a cell phone camera that I can post to face book with. I have no clue how to take a pic, and post it on this site. If any of you could enlighten me to the...

    replacing transom

I finally had to bend the metal straight to get the old one out, and, even then, had to cut it as it was such a tight fit. I've got new ply wood for it, but I think I'll cut it about a1/4 inch smaller and coat it with some acrylic floor finish.....and some of that "Flex-Seal" product to insure...

    replacing transom

I've tried in the past to post photos to no avail, but I do appreciate your input. My old Traveler has a lip in the back that is folded over the wood. I finally took some sheet metal pliers and just bent it up to the point where I could get the old wood out. There is, also, a brace in the floor...

    replacing transom

Gentlemen, and ladies,if there are any, I am creating a disaster! I have a 1957 Arkansas Traveler "V" bottom 14 ft.. The wooden transom is rotten and I think I may have inadvertently messed up. To get the wood out, I had to physically bend the metal up and cut the plywood to get it out. I've got...
