Jack London, his life and.... a lot more.

I found this old post, and can relate. Good article. I was lucky enough to walk to The Wolf House ruins with my father. My old man was not much of a reader. He was a Depression Era youngster without a high school degree, and went straight into the Army after Pearl Harbor. But the man knew...

    Lost fishing partner.

This is not a cry for sympathy. I am trying to figure something out, and wonder if you have been through it. Specifically, if you were able to fix it. 20 years ago I bought a boat, and had a number of friends to fill the spare seat. Two moved to the east cost, one lost interest, and one...

    Soft or hard cooler?

They both have their use. I bought a softside years ago. I would tell you the name, but the company went full tactical, and doesn't make these ice chests any more. Too bad, I would buy another. It is perfect for a daytrip or a large lunch box. I freeze water bottles for ice, and as it melts...

Live well or storage and just carry a cooler?

I bought a boat thinking I was going to tourney fish, but the livewell that was not plumbed correctly from the factory. Didn't tourney fish, and ran it like that for 18 years. When I rebuilt it the livewell was removed which is how I figured out the factory messed up the installation. I...

    Your opinions?

I love my beat up old totally rebuilt Crestliner Fish Hawk 1650. It was a great side console boat, and is proving to be a great tiller boat. It may be a touch longer that you are looking for but at 16'-9" it seems miles bigger than a 14' boat. It is about 85" in the beam, and is considered a...

    Lowe 160spl storage help

I am not a fan of cutting out foam. It is there for a reason. I do like 3770 trays, and have found that a few of these racks work good. I have 2 by the step, and one up front next to my forward sonar.

Crestliner 1650 Fish Hawk SC Restoration - In Progress

Mine is a 1600 Fish Hawk SC than we bought new in '99. Not sure if it is officially a '98 or a '99. It is a bit shorter than yours. It also had a small plywood rod locker, and a weird shelf behind the drivers seat to the back deck. Removing all that cut weight, but I decided on 3/4 instead...

Fish Finder Mounting on Open Floor Plan

I had an old Lowrance left without a mount. My solution was a Scotty rod holder socket mounted to the gunnel, a Scotty table and some aluminum angles. I have used it as shown, and dropped it on the floor out of the sun. Pretty flexible

Beginners guide to modding a boat?

Do not drill holes in the hull unless absolutely necessary. Honestly, some of the TinyBoat Nation full deck builds are sketchy at best for being seaworthy. Learn your rig as is. If you still think you want a rear casting deck, mock one up and try it on a calm day in shallow water. You may...

    livewell question

I admit to a love/hate relationship with a livewell, so that is why it was eliminated from my refit. The livewell I did have made the overflow and drain go through the same pipe by using a stand pipe that screwed into the drain outlet. Top of the pipe was the overflow, unscrew it to drain...

Crestliner 1650 Fish Hawk SC Restoration - In Progress

Folsom Lake outside of Sacramento, CA. It is often overcrowded on weekends, and sometimes tough to fish, but it was perfect for a few shakedown cruises after my refit.

    1980 16 ft crestliner

I had good results with a couple of plastic putty knives on my friends boat. We decided to stick with plastic tool to prevent gorilla hands from putting a screwdriver through the bottom of his rig. Cut, pry, sweep, vacuum, repeat.

Crestliner 1650 Fish Hawk SC Restoration - In Progress

Nice boat. I decided to go open floor tiller, and vinyl when it came time to refit mine.

    scotty rod holder's?

My gunnel is not the perect size for the base, and I didn't want them above it. It interferes with the boat cover. So, an aluminum angle provides enough vertical meat to attach to, and does not add much height. Sometimes the little simple modifications are the best. [img]

    Finishing touches

I tried a few types and sizes of hydraulic struts, and they were not quite what I was looking for. Old fashioned spring hold-opens. That was the answer. Pliers mounted to the deck and lanyard hooked to the tool rest. It'll do.

    Old guys & square bills

I still fish an old Big-O that we always called the one-knocker. It is hollow bodied, and has a single large ball bearing in it. I know the retrieve speed is right when I feel that thing knocking back and forth. Runs about 1 1/2' deep, and smacks bass when they do not quite want to commit to...

Anyone pouring their own soft plastics?

I have thought about it quite a bit lately. My favorite plastic worm is a 6" Culprit, and they quit making a specific color combo. It was the most effective worm I ever fished locally, and hand pouring it is they only way to get it. Problem is that I have not found a commercially available...

    A couple of questions

This is the tool holder that I built for about $3. Local plastics place has scrap for next to nothing, and a bottle of glue. Holds scissors, pliers, and a bunch of baits. Since this picture I have upgraded the tools and added a couple of springy lanyards to the pliers and scissors.

    Photobucket is back....

I left my photos that are linked to this forum on Photobucket. The other forums that I was involved with are out of luck. I deleted all other photos from Bucket-O-crap. A picture, or one of my drawings, is worth a thousand words, or so I have been told. Since I am not much of a writer, I...
