    Knott Waterproof Hubs

Just saw that this thread had revived itself. I have the Knott waterproof bearings on my boat trailer. I felt that it would be best to swap them out because they were five years old. I bought new hubs ($115 each!) and replaced them. I was surprised that the old ones had no play and still looked...

2002 Bass Tracker Pro Team 165 complete overhaul

I have stripped a few tinnies down before. Labor of love. I finally had enough cash to buy a new Gregor Alaskan 16 a couple of years ago. It is kept in my garage so that it does not weather or corrode. Age has some benefits I guess. Keep at it. Yours will be a gem when you are through.

2002 Bass Tracker Pro Team 165 complete overhaul

Mighty ambitious! You might consider treating the rust areas with something like POR 15. Also, don't let your wife see that you have her Eureka Mighty Mite vacuum in there!

    gunnel cracks

You may wish to contact Gregor. I have owned a couple of their boats and they specifically tell you that a transom-saver is not to be used. I realize that everyone here has an opinion on these devises, but I would go with what the manufacture says. Good Luck!

    Transom saver

One other note to consider. Some manufacturers indicate that a transom saver is not to be used with their boats. With my Gregor Alaskan, I was specifically told NOT to use one by Gregor (Not the idiot salesman). Good luck with your decision.

Relocating a battery to the bow?

Something to consider is the power of the engine. If you are underpowered, moving the battery forward could cause your boat to plow through the water and not get up on plane. I would suggest that you take the boat out and try it with the battery moved forward. (Use jumper cables if you need it...

    Roof Top Loader

I will tell you that the set-up and take down time is considerable. PLUS, you can't leave all of your fishing stuff in the boat, like you could on a trailer. My friend used his with a 5th wheel and it worked well for him. He put the retractable wheels on the transom and had a bracket made that...

    Roof Top Loader

I know a guy that lives near you that has one hanging from his rafters. He used it for years, but age has taken it's toll and he no longer fishes nor has a boat. He used it with a 12 foot aluminum. If you are interested, send me a PM and I will see if he wants to part with it (I';m sure he...

    Alumacraft V16

I second what Weldor said. I would not take away any foam. But...... If you build a casting deck, you should be able to add compartments beneath the casting deck and actually add foam. You can also remove the flat flooring and check to see if there is foam under it. You might be able to add...

    Trolling motor or kicker?

Have you considered a trolling plate on your main motor? I have a Davis Happy Troller on my Honda 30 and it can slow the boat down to 1 mph. The thing works great (Once you get used to how to deploy/raise it) If you put it on and you do not like the preset settings, you can grind it down to...

    New Grizzly 1448 and '21 Merc 15hp Won't Plane?

In your opening page you indicated that you went from a 9p prop to an 11p prop. I think you went the wrong way........ A lower pitch prop would help with the lower speed and to get on plane. (I don't know if they have a lower pitch than 9p) Do you have any idea what your RPM was? Did you get...

    New Boat Trailer Setup

Hi Since this is a new boat the first thing that I would do would be to read all of the brochures that came with the boat. Every new boat that I have purchased has had detailed instructions for trailer adjustments. It should tell you where the boat supports are supposed to be and how long they...

GPS shuts Off When Cranking Engine UPDATE! SOLVED!

As you may recall, I had previously posted that my GPS/Depthfinder would shut off when I would crank the motor. My previous setup was a group 24 battery in the bow of my 16 Gregor Alaskan. I had run 4 gauge wires from the battery to terminal blocks at the transom. Based on some excellent...

GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

Well, that shows another solution to this problem! Glad that worked. I am still going to upgrade the wiring when I have a spare two hours. (Don't see it in the near future). I will update this post when I do. Have a great day Bill

GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

I am sorry for not updating this thread. I too am convinced that my wiring is too small. I am planning to upgrade it. Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way of this project (Fishing too), and I will be out of action for a while. I will be ordering the wire soon and I will update any...

GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

Thanks for the replies, guys. I agree that turning the motor on before starting the Hummingbird is a fair solution, unfortunately, I motor into coves, shut the motor off and leave the Hummingbird on to see what is happening underneath the boat. In a perfect world, I would remember to shut the...

GPS Shuts off when starting gas motor UPDATE WITH SPECS

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I will test the voltage and see what happens. All of the connections are new, clean and tight. The wire selection was based on info provided by Honda for length/gauge. For KMixson, the main battery wire run goes from the battery to a terminal block. The GPS is...
