Why not use a common ground?

I’m new to wiring boats, but have done a fair amount of automotive wiring to include a complete re wire of my 67 mustang. Why does it seem like nobody wires their boats using a common ground for multiple circuits? I recently moved my 12v battery up to the front of my 16’ express using 6g...

    Mounting my Merc 60/40 Jet

Just got a lightly used Mercury 60/40 Jet for my 16’ Express. It has a 21” transom and I will have to raise the motor up to the lowest mounting hole to get the intake at the correct level. I have to seal and cover the two mounting holes from the previous motor, and account for the small lip...

Mounting help for Mercury 60/40 Jet

Does a Mercury 60/40;Jet have clamps on the top of the mount. I know my 2stroke 25hp did, but for some reason I thought the larger motors were held on with 4 bolts.

Mounting help for Mercury 60/40 Jet

I am going on a road trip to pick up a used Mercury 40hp Jet Motor. I would like to at least temporarily mount it to my boat to test run and for the ride home. Does anyone know where I can find a mounting template for a Mercury 60/40 motor? Also, does anyone know what size bolts I should...

New Jet Motor advice for 16’ Xpress

Scott, your boat doesn’t look Ike a tunnel hull.. ? And I don’t see a jack plate. The Mercury spec, says their 25/35/40 jets have a 15” shaft and work with a 20” Transom. These motors come with a power tilt.. Please help me understand why I would need a jack plate to run this with my...

New Jet Motor advice for 16’ Xpress

I think I have decided to go with the 40hp motor. I like the look of your console. Did you order the windshield and grab bar from them too? Is your boat a tunnel hull, or flat bottom? I am trying to make sure these motors will work well with my boat. Specs say they work with a 20”...

New Jet Motor advice for 16’ Xpress

USCG sticker on my boat states it’s rated for: 30hp motor 70hp motor remote steering. Somewhat new to boats, I am not sure why remote steering allows over 2x power. Is it due to shifting the weight forward with remote / console up front?

New Jet Motor advice for 16’ Xpress

I have a 16’ Xpress that seems wider than most Jons at around 75” wide ad the back. It has been running great with a 25hp Mercury 2 cycle, but much of the river near my property is virtually inaccessible. Unless the review is way up, there are several places where we have less than 1’ depth and...
