    Trailer upgrades……

If using the plastic gutter material does it go directly on the wood? If it goes over carpet it seems like it would hold water for a long time.

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

It does, especially parked next to the Gregor, but I think the canvas makes it look bigger. It came on a rusted out trailer so this weekend my buddy Jerry is going to help me modify the replacement trailer and swap the boat onto it. Sounds like a new thread, eh? It'll be a Frankentrailer.

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

I plan too, thanks! Mine's only 15', I wonder how it will handle the rough stuff. We shall see!

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

Oh yeah, I overthink everything. But without the brace you can flex the side of the boat by a couple of inches. I (overthinkingly maybe) Imagine heading into a big wave and having the boat fold over on itself. With two straps per seat it won't go anywhere. Even worse is when the seat is removed...

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

Flat aluminum bar seems to be the way to go. I had some and after some messing around, with the wrong tools, I think I can make it work. And I'm not the first to ask about this on here. LDUBS and airshot, you even suggested solutions. Thanks, folks!

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

That search got me a bunch of orthopedic braces. I then searched for "aluminum multipurpose brace and got a bunch of flagploe holders. Amazon showed me many pages of seat brackets. The internet is a strangely literal place.

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

Love that idea, but I'm not the right guy to pull it off. Besides, I'm going to sell this boat. I think those braces could be pretty important in the kind of rough water we can get out of nowhere in the PNW, so I'll sleep better if I take care of it.

    Gunwale-to-Seat Braces

This is for a 79 15' Gregor. It's missing several of the braces that connect the gunwales to the seats. Important structural elements, methinks. Gregor was no help; they've had a fire and are shut down. Ideas? Something simple, for a guy with few skills?

    Mystery Boat...

That's reassuring, somewhat. I think that once I get to know the rig I'll be less concerned about stranding. It's going to have to prove itself. I like the smaller kicker tips, thanks.

    Mystery Boat...

It's not how fast I want to troll, it's paranoia about getting back if the main motor craps out. I have been left dead in the water by an old 2 stroke. Out here the fastest we troll is 4-5 mph for coho. This boat's not going to make a 30 mile tuna run! At least not with me aboard.

    Mystery Boat...

That's a tough one. I hate trolling a 2 cycle. Noisy and stinky. Weight is a concern, but it looks like it's only 20# or so on a 9.9 Merc. That power trim is a black box to me; I can't even tell if it's all still there. Gonna have to spend some time on that one. I do need it; my back can't...

    Mystery Boat...

Slim pickins, right? I got a response from Smoker, that it's a 15' Striker, but the numbers don't line up. I asked the nice lady to look a little more. We shall see what she comes up with.

The. local Smoker dealer has no idea. I submitted Smoker's ID request form. We'll see how long it takes them to respond. In the SYL 94233 G2 93

    Mystery Boat...

I recently purchased this 1993 15' Sylvan Pro-Yukon. I can't find that specific model anywhere, including the Smokercraft and Sylvan websites. The capacity label says Smokercraft. It's a beefy boat with a factory floor, side console and built-in 12 gallon gas tank. I'd sure like to see the specs...

    93 40hp Mercury

I hope to run it in the tank this weekend. Also shopping for a kicker. For me, having been left in the lurch by the main motor, the kicker is more of a plan B than a way to go slow and drag gear around. I'm not putting that boat in the water without it.

    93 40hp Mercury

You are saying to use 2 cycle mix in my old Jeep? I take your point regarding dilution, but I can't bring myself to do it. And it's moot anyway; the seller tells me he emptied the tank and put in fresh fuel a few weeks ago. So I can add a Stabil-ized gallon or so of fresh gas to the tank and I'm...

    93 40hp Mercury

For sure. Old fuel is always suspect. It's a built in tank, 17 gallons, I think. Looks like it will have to be pumped or siphoned out. Fun. I wonder what's lurking at the bottom of that thing. In the meantime I'll hook it up to a portable tank of fresh go-juice. But not today, gotta work...

    93 40hp Mercury

The oil injection system has been abandoned, as seems to be common. The tank I'm talking about is in the boat, under the floor, 17 gallons, I think, and is about half full of pre-mix.

    93 40hp Mercury

According to this chart they made these small 4 cylinders from 1989 through at least 1996. I can't find a manual, any ideals?

    93 40hp Mercury

Yup, 2 carbs. It seems to be the last of an older design, called Classic(?). They went to 3 bangers at about the same time this was built. The boat has a built in tank, which is about 1/2 full of pre-mixed fuel of unknown age or composition and I have to figure out how to drain it. Then I'll...
