    Go trolling motor only?

Thanks to all for your experiences and thoughts about this. It’s always good to hear from people. You never know when somebody sees something you didn’t even consider!

    Go trolling motor only?

So the 55lb transom mount works for you the majority of the time. Good to know. I’m thinking of running 2 deep cycle batteries in parallel. My hull weighs about 250 lbs and there are usually 2 adults on board. Do you think that will last me 4-6 hours at 1.5-2.0 gps?

    Go trolling motor only?

Cyclops2 - all good points! I agree we are a few years away from depending on larger electric outboards, both cost and reliability wise. I’m thinking like a 55lb thrust Minn Koda. If it dies in 2 or 3 years I will dig down and spend another $300. The ponds I fish are small. I’m old and slow and...

    Go trolling motor only?

So the lower unit on my 1986 Johnson 20 seized up. It’s on a 14 foot Mirrocraft. I use this boat exclusively on 100-300 acre local ponds. For the last few years I’ve only used it for trolling. Basically idle speed with a trolling plate deployed to maintain 1-3 gps all day long. No long runs to...

    Lower unit compatibility

Hello. I have a 1986 Johnson outboard, 20 HP, 20 inch shaft. It needs the lower unit replaced. I think I can use 20/25/30/35 HP lower units, but I’m not sure what years are compatible with my ‘86. Anybody know?

    Carb, timing, or both?

Thanks Pappy. It’s gonna take a week or two before I can get the boat back in the water. My tow vehicle has electrical problems that need to be straightened out first. I will do as you suggest and post the results in a couple of weeks. Thanks again! - Bill

    Carb, timing, or both?

Thanks for the suggestions.Pappy you are correct, no air box on this model. I did as you said and duplicated the problem. 1: I am getting a spark. 2: I pumped the bulb and activated the electric primer; it doesn’t make any difference. Also, the slow speed-knob on the carb is adjusted correctly...

    Mirrocraft deep V

As to making the transom higher for a long shaft motor. I have a 14 foot mirrocraft with the same transom braces. A 2x10 rested on the cutouts in the braces comes right up to the top of the aluminum. I overlapped a piece of sheet aluminum on the outside with a piece of aluminum sheet the...

    Carb, timing, or both?

I have a ‘86 Johnson 20 on a 14 foot boat. It starts hard. I can chug around all day at idle speed when I’m trolling. Basically idling in gear gives me 2.5-3.0gps speed. Pop it out of gear to land fish, back into gear to troll again. No problems. Runs for hours. Trouble is, if I run it down the...

    Crooked Jon Boat?

Sure looks to me like the hull has a twist in it. I wouldn’t want that.

    Small Fishing Deck/Platform

Nice work! What size is your boat?

    Boat seats

If the only thing uncomfortable about your present setup is the seats, why not swap out the seats and see how you like it? I tend to do one thing at a time. Then let the dust settle for a bit. But, eventually, l come up with a new things I want to do. It never ends!

    Boat seats

The 100s have a backrest. Not sure about the 200s.

    Boat seats

The millennium boat seats are pretty comfortable. I switched to them last year and have found them better than any seats I’ve used in the past.

    Lowe 1648M Project...

It’s gotta be nice starting with a new hull and motor! No need to undo somebody else’s “craftsmanship”.

    Stick Minnow Lure

Those Speedy Shiner spoons look a lot like the Mooselook Wobblers I use. I’ve caught a ton of trout trolling them, both on flat lines early in the season and on lead core set ups into the summer.

    Stick Minnow Lure

It’s tough to beat the f5 and f7 rapalas for trout. I have had good luck with silver or gold with a black back. Sometimes if the waters dirty I will use fire tiger. I’ve caught trout using F11 rapalas too, but not as many. If I had to pick one size, I would say f7s produce best (for me). It...
