    Concerns About 4 Stroke Weight

I know that mine is smaller as it is a Suzuki 20hp but it is a 4 stroke. The differences could be (and probably are) extreme between smaller and larger outboards. But the 3 things I love about my 4 stroke is electronic fuel injection (no carbs to fiddle with and easy starts), it's much quieter...

If it's ok with the moderators, I'd love to show off examples of my other passion. I never used books or templates. One day I thought to myself.... I'd like to build something I could play music on.... That was in the early 1980s.... I have been building instruments ever since. I was also in a...

It's the pendulum of fate my friend.... The current swing, at this brief moment in time, the luck side of the weight is facing me.... And I'm taking full advantage of it for as long as it lasts. I build string musical instruments of all types as a hobby with an emphasis on whatever catches my...

I am glad I measured the hatches before cutting. The package says 6" hatches and the instructions say to cut a 6" hole. But when I measured the sleeve that fits through the hole, I found that I need a 6 5/8" to 7" hole for these to be mounted properly. Good luck for me though. My neighbor is...

2002 1436 Alumacraft and floatation pods

I was told that my pods have approximately 118lbs of buoyancy. I assume that's in fresh water. But that is getting somewhat off subject. I am going out to purchase the nuts-bolts-washers to mount the pods in the AM. I already have the 3M 5200. I'm still hesitant to cut the holes in the pods...

Yes I checked with several schools and the only one that said they might be willing gave me this caveat, only if I'm willing to wait as long as up to the end of the school year and that is if they would even get to it this year.

Well after exhausting every concept I have come up with, I have decided that I can't ignore the elephant in the room any longer. It comes down to weld them on or bolt them on. I refuse to pay a welder $120 an hour with a 4 hour minimum (best price I could find around here). So the only other...

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers.... I truly apologize. I'm just having a bummer middle east - Ex Navy Corpsman - USMC "Doc" - Beirut 1983 Vet kind of thing going on here. I'll be ok..... I do appreciate and value others ideas and experiences from others. Asking is the easiest way to get a...

I DO NOT WANT TO CUT BIG HOLES IN MY PODS!!!!!!! How many times must I say that? Jeez I know I must have typed that at least twice. Put a water tight hatch on that and store your oil in it...... Has anyone here done any low temp welding? Could that be an option for me? Or is that just soldering?

As it stands now the rivnuts won't work, but not for any of the reasons listed above. Compressing the steel nuts in the aluminum firmly enough to keep them from spinning, crushes/pinches the aluminum. It does it enough to weaken the metal that they were installed in. Due to the beveled flange on...

The tool makes short work of the rivnuts. I compressed 3 of the rivnuts so far to test it out and I don't think installing 10 to 12 rivnuts will hurt it. It takes a firm pull with both hands but not enough to break the tool in my opinion. It bends the rivnuts right where they are supposed to...

2002 1436 Alumacraft and floatation pods

Understood on your post on the side supports although I do not see the need since I will be mounting them flush to the transom. The rivnuts are not aluminum but are actually stainless steel as will be the washers and bolts. The shear strength should be at least as strong as bolting them on from...

2002 1436 Alumacraft and floatation pods

These pods already have the angle built in. So they will mount flush with the transom. The rivnuts I'm using are blind and are closed on the blind end making them waterproof. I intend to install the rivnuts into the pods. Then I will put bolts through the transom and into the pods. I will not...

As I mentioned in my last post the pods and tool both just arrived. Also I have a working knowledge of dealing with these critters. I just unpacked the tool and found it is simple to use. The rivnuts are steel but using the tool was not too hard. I compressed one of the 3/8 nuts and although not...

2002 1436 Alumacraft and floatation pods

Thank you for your well thought out reply. "Fooling with them" is already in the plans, I have a small sheet of aluminum about the same thickness and type of aluminum as the pods. I was going to test several of the rivnuts for fitment, water tightness, and resistance to twisting on axis. Also...
