In between a long and standard shaft - which to choose ?

I did test drive it before buying but that’s the only time I’ve had it on the water. It felt a little nose heavy and was carving a bit Which I think I can fix by adjusting the tilt by one hole. It didnt cavitate on the straightaways but I didn’t try any turns at speed as I was on a river...

    Simplex shifter compatibility question

Hi everyone. Eventually, I’ll need to purchase a shifter set up and wanted to confirm a few things. My boat is a 56 Aerocraft and the engine I’m working on is a 67 evinrude Fastwin. I think the first pic is correct for the boat and the second is correct for the motor. Is that right ...

    Recommend lights

For a trouble free lighting circuit over the years, I’d recommend crimp sleeves/solder/marine shrink tube at each wire connection. Intermittent connections are common after some time when using the blue quick connect spade type connectors. Harbor Freight is a good source for cheap marine...

In between a long and standard shaft - which to choose ?

Excellent info, thanks skeet. I think I’ll end up with a small spacer on top of the transom as well. I have no idea whether my 3 blade prop is optimized or not. I’ll be getting a wireless rpm sending unit in the spring to see where I’m running and go from there.

    Cable/pulley steering vs rotary ?

Thanks for the pulley info. I tried marine engine and it didn’t like that pn for some reason. I’ll track it down. Appreciate the teleflex input Crow. I’m sure it’s a good system as well.

‘57 Lonestar Malibu seat braces wanted.

Thanks very much for digging up this option. It’s certainly the right shape and I’ll forward it on to him. Although, I think it needs to be flanged on all 3 sides for attachment reasons. Perhaps this could be modified (flanged) on the two straight sides. Much appreciated.

    Cable/pulley steering vs rotary ?

A quick search reveals that 3” garage door pulleys may be a good substitute. Metal with bearings rather than plastic with bushings. Also removable forks (probably not these ones) may allow me to use the original hull anchors without having to drill out the rivets. They also allow better...

    Cable/pulley steering vs rotary ?

Thanks Jeff. That’s a cool looking boat - I’ve always been interested in jet boats. What engine were you running ? It would be cool to drop an electric motor in it if the battery tech was available/affordable. Silent running except for water. While l lean towards the original look, I’m fine...

‘57 Lonestar Malibu seat braces wanted.

Hello, My friend is looking for one (or two if necessary) of these braces. Please let me know if you have one to spare. thanks John

    New to me - Starcraft 18' Mariner-V

I really like the layout of that boat - congrats. I painted mine navy blue with bare aluminum and am happy with the overall look/ contrast. I bet that boat really flies when you get it on the water. My keel is quite banged up and bent upwards in the middle from misplaced center rollers. I’m...

In between a long and standard shaft - which to choose ?

As far as I can tell, the suzuki is unmolested and considered a standard shaft despite being 17”. The boat measures 15.

67 evinrude remote steering bracket ?

Is this the correct bracket to convert a tiller motor (67 Fastwin) into remote steering ?

Would you weld or use Lumiweld / Devcon putty to fix this ?

Good thought. I’ll look more closely to see how much meat is available.

Would you weld or use Lumiweld / Devcon putty to fix this ?

Thanks eeshaw- I’ll file that good advice away. In this case, however, the botched attempt to remove the broken bolts has obliterated some of the boss wall so it needs to be built up either using epoxy or weld.

Would you weld or use Lumiweld / Devcon putty to fix this ?

Hi all, pulled of my exhaust cover to understand why it was leaking. 3 of the 10 bolts were doing nothing except looking pretty. Considering the effort and expense of stripping down the block to be tig welded (alum block) / retapped AND the risk of distorting the piston bore directly behind...

    67 Evinrude 18 modified to a 25 ?

Understand your point about the risk of buying used. As to your question, I suppose I’m both a boater and not-so- frustrated mechanic. Half the fun for me is refurbishing things back to good condition. Using it is the other half.

    67 Evinrude 18 modified to a 25 ?

Pappy- would you recommend looking for a good 25hp power head vs building the 18 into a 25 ? I’m guessing the former is probably less expensive.

    Storage box hinge recommendations

Dale, you are a stud - thanks from the “info consumers” on this site (like me). Alan, consider adding riv nuts (vs loose nuts) to your design. They are super easy to use in sheet metal with difficult access from behind and require no special tools other than a drill.
