Going after two free boats and motors?

I don’t see anywhere in this post the location of the boats. I’ll bet there are members nearby that are willing to help with this adventure

    1957 LoneStar King Commander

I have the same corner braces, both upper and lower, on my King commander. So I assume they are original. I had to remove ( drilled out the rivets) on both the upper corner braces and the side braces to remove and replace the transom. Hope this helps.

Nice boat. I have a little later model that I’m working on. Transom, seats, etc. Mine has a lockable storage Area under the front deck and flotation foam under the seats.

    1972 Johnson 25Hp Refurbish

Pappy, Thanks. Regarding the BTW, unless I’ve somehow put the choke linkage together wrong, the solenoid just moves the crank toward the rear and the outer coil spring then closes the choke plate softly against the carb throat. That’s why I had asked about the weak spring possibly allowing the...

Here’s a picture of the magneto right after I pulled the fly wheel. I thought it looked clean. I dressed the points and got spark. Since I got a spark, I did not do a continuity or resistance check. I’m in Germany for next three weeks, so I’ll not be able to get back on this for a while. I’ll...

    1972 Johnson 25Hp Refurbish

On my way to airport, but kept thinking about the choke. It is actuated and held closed by a spring. I do remember that during some of the start attempts I did see the coke plate fluttering. Wondering if I have a weak spring or is this normal?normal?

Pappy, I did not remove that or any of the Welch plugs. I did spray carb cleaner through the passageway leading to the cavity and saw it exiting the 5or6 small holes in the top of the carb. I took a short cut and am now regretting it because I cannot say with certainty that the cavity and holes...

I checked the spark gap. Both cylinders at .400 inch. The next increment up yielded intermittent sparking and at .600 no spark. I again drained the bowl and checked it against fuel in the tank. In the picture below the tank fuel is on the left…the bowl fuel on the right. The bowl fuel is...

Thanks Pappy. The carburetor kit I installed was OEM from MarineEngines.com. Everything seemed to go together as expected. The plugs were wet , but not overly so. With what, I could not confirm. This morning I did drain the carburetor bowl into a small container. Something did not look right...

    1972 Johnson 25Hp Refurbish

Thanks, been thinking some more about my situation. I’ve got compression ( around 115 both cylinders), I’ve got spark ( l checked with both a tester 3/8-1/2” gap, and with the actual plugs gapped at .030”). And I’ve got fuel getting to the cylinders, but I don’t know that it is good fuel. I...

    1972 Johnson 25Hp Refurbish

Update: Before I take the carb off, I wanted to check things out again and make some notes. I checked each of plugs for spark…both are good. I took the low speed needle valve out to about 2-1/2 turns from a soft seat. Tried to start the engine: no start, not even a kick. Pulled both plugs. Both...

Got all of the external harness work done. Turned out pretty good and should last another 20 years. Hooked it up to battery. Choke works and engine turns over. Checked again for spark, put lower end in a barrel of water. Hooked up gas and tried to start. Engine turns over, but does not...

Ok, back on my external wiring…pictures below. The external rubber sheath is pretty much shot. The internal wires are marine grade and the connector is good. My plan is to remove the rest of the old sheath, carefully inspect the wires and replace sheath with a new vinyl sheath seen the picture...

    1972 Johnson 25Hp Refurbish

Finally got the right rebuild kit for the carb and the carb installled. While I was waiting for carb parts, I put a new impeller, along with some other grommets and o-rings. Also changed out the lower unit gear oil. Once the carb was on and fuel lines replaced I was able to install the starter...

Yes. And it was solidly packed in the head and top of the bottom cylinder. It was actually impeding the turning of the flywheel. It puzzles me that this was only on bottom cylinder. Any ideas what could cause this? Maybe faulty ignition or a cold plug?
