as long as the carb is off a 35 (wich it looks like it is but hard tellin without more pics) and your manifold is the same as the 35, slap it on there and you should be good to go... looks like the 25 carb is missing the slow speed needle....

and your question about the lower holding up... yes, yes it will. the 50's thru 80's johnsons were built very very tough and the 25 lowers will handle the xtra hp, mine has with no problems whatsoever...no metal flakes in the lower oil when I have changed/checked mine....

1980 25's and 35's have same intakes but different carbs so only carb needs replaced.. I have a 1980 25 with 35 carb on it...

sounds like a fuel issue. I would have started checking for any leaks at the fuel tank, then the fuel line, primer bulb, connection at the motor,then to the fuel pump and on to the carb before I rebuilt it because you may have not had to rebuild it, did you rebuild it after you noticed the...
