'87 Bluefin Sportsman 1700 Rebuild - Family Cruiser

Question for some of you have experience here: How do I get the old 2 part mixed foam out of the support braces? The angle of the braces and distance from the inner wall of the hull prevent me from going straight in with any kind of a stiff tool to pull it out. I've been able to go in...

'87 Bluefin Sportsman 1700 Rebuild - Family Cruiser

Ha ha Dale! This one's definitely taking a lot longer than my first one. Did some detail work this week. I pulled apart the control box and cleaned all of the old sticky grease out. I painted it to match the boat color, and played around with our laser engraver to add the "Evinrude" and...

'87 Bluefin Sportsman 1700 Rebuild - Family Cruiser

Continuing slow progress. I've been doing some painting and started fitting the new transom in place. I also continued working on my flooring and general planning. The Nautolex arrived I haven't been as good taking pictures this time around. I painted the splashwell, but didn't go a great...

    Fish ruler mounted in boat

I've got two, riveted down. One in the front and one in the back. I rarely keep anything, so they are probably the least used piece of equipment in the boat.

'87 Bluefin Sportsman 1700 Rebuild - Family Cruiser

Picking up steam this week. I purchased the Nautolex (gray sisal) and continued sealing the floors. I also worked on replicating the curve on the front of the bow. I don't remember the original wood under the bow having a curve when I pulled it, but it must have been there. I started with...

    Cleaning Aluminum

I had good luck with some scotch brite type pads that I got at my local hardware store. I used the "white" version of the assortment and applied some Brasso Aluminum polish (it took two bottles for the polished stripe on my hull, so it takes quite a bit. I used the the drill to scrub it on...

    New Here - 1970 Gregor V Hull

That's a 1987 Johnson 25hp. Looks like it might be a commercial unit. That's a very good deal.

So unfortunately, my build made it into the garage but it quickly turned into a really large workbench. I had cut a couple of the floorboards, and sealed them. I had the floors across the gunnels to work on them and they were at the perfect height to use for other projects. I finally cleared...

    Slow theft

What about putting a tile someplace a thief wouldn't find (top of the Trolling motor or Tucked under the console). The tile uses Bluetooth from many phones to report where it's location is. If the boat is parked or used anywhere near a cell phone, it should show up. https://www.thetileapp.com

I went to an auto paint shop and looked through their paint book. I ended up picking a GMC color "Limited Addiction Red Pearl". GMC has cutsie names for their paints: I finally managed to move it into the garage today. The trailer wouldn't fit, so I made a couple of cradles to hold it...

    Self Centering Rollers

I use one with My Mod-V Tracker. It works well, but the roller and pin have deformed under the weight over time. It doesn't roll as easily as it once did. I would get the strongest metal for the pin that you can find, or use a light boat. :) Good luck!

Unfortunately no.... It's still upside down on the sawhorses right now. I've been wrapped up in a fundraiser for our local Cub Scouts and trying to plug up a few leaks on the house before winter. I'm hopeful to get it inside in the next week or so, then I can really get going on it. I gotta...

Do marine electronics go on clearance/sale in the fall?

I picked up one of those. I've been keeping an eye on them all year. Best price I've ever seen.

1985 bass tracker tournament TX...17'....complete rebuild.

You're going to have to drill a bunch of rivets and take it apart piece by piece. On my '89 Pro 17, the Panel behind the seats was the only one that was attached to rivets through the hull. I know my build isn't the same as yours, but you can read through my rebuild to get an idea. There's...

    Need Carb Part Number Please

There's a Link & Sync process to go through if you have a true OEM shop manual that will cover the idle adjustment, but for simple idle adjustment, you need to tweak this screw: Good luck!

    Battery trashed?

Probably not trashed, especially if it's a relatively new battery. It will probably have a shorter overall life though. My truck has a problem where the key can come out when it's in the ACC position. I use it only occasionally, and while I know the issue, I have relatives who will use it...

'87 Bluefin Sportsman 1700 Rebuild - Family Cruiser

Finally got the paint on this weekend. Not a professional job, but I'm happy with it. The color is muted, but really pops in the sunlight, with the pearl really showinging in direct sunlight. I originally had some issues with the green "frog" masking tape holding, but I switched to some 3M...

    remove lower unit

Step 1 will be to let us know what motor you're looking for information on. Each style has their differences. Can you give us Make, Model and Year? Then we can probably point you in the right direction. EDIT: Sorry, I see it under the header line, I don't usually look there. '75 Johnson...

New to Forum: Paint Code Question

I doubt you'll find it online. I would give Tracker Marine a call. I redid my 89' Pro17 a few years back and called them for a wiring diagram. They were VERY responsive and sent one within minutes. I recently suggested another member do the same thing a few weeks ago and he had similar...

'87 Bluefin Sportsman 1700 Rebuild - Family Cruiser

Did some more polishing and priming this weekend. I started by using some Brasso polish on a soft scouring style pad. That seemed to do a good job of taking the tarnish off the bare aluminum. The results were fairly good. I'm sure I could have gone further with some additional elbow...
