What's a good setup of an 18 foot jon boat

I run a 225 jet on the susky and do pretty well. The best part of a big jet is, as already mentioned, float to plane in one boat length and having reserve power. Plus I can run at 4k rpms right at 30mph when I was redline on my 115/80 to do near the same. If you are planning on running the susky...

    Floating leaves and pine needles

maybe it's just me, but I suck them right through. I've never had an issue with leaves.... Rocks occasionally, but I usually just shut the motor off, wait a few seconds and that cures it..

    best obj

I love my 225 merc, but given the option would upgrade in a heartbeat to a 300xs. Too much power is just enough IMO.

Jet outboard hot rodding/stainless impeller questions

No, my motor doesn't lose traction at all coming out of the hole WOT. I took a good look at my impeller tonight, and it does have some dings on the leading edge. Guess it's time for a sharpen. I think I'm going to go ahead and grab a set of reeds from Chris Carson. I am decent at turning...

    I wanna go shallow!

Get a jet, or buy some spare props. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-jet-20-outboard-2005-model-two-stroke-/190845756697?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item2c6f4b2519&vxp=mtr#ht_120wt_1170(i read the part about you not wanting to mess with a jet) Really though, other than shifting weight...

Black Lake NY - Report and Video

Nice! still looks like you guys had fun. Ever get any big pike from black lake? Not to get off topic, but I see you're from downingtown. Ever do any muskie fishing on Marsh Creek and if so, how is it?

Jet outboard hot rodding/stainless impeller questions

Rude, I was hoping/figured you would respond here. I am 99% positive that my motor already has a 4 blade in it, but it doesn't look nearly as skinny or finished as the aftermarket ones offered by say wooldridgeboats. Should I just work on sharpening mine up? Have you ever installed reeds? Is...

Jet outboard hot rodding/stainless impeller questions

First off, i have the "AR" pump on my 225 optimax. Reading the outboard jet site it appears that the kit comes with a stainless impeller from the get go. Can anyone else confirm this? Do different impellers have different pitches like prop blades, or?? Next: Does anyone have any legit...

    Cracked foot

I have a UHMW foot on my jet as well, and am very pleased with it. I have had a few impacts and no issues so far

New member and new project boat.

No such thing as too much power. I am very happy with my 225's performance, but If I could do it all over again I would have done a 300xs. Sportjets are very good performers, and they do so with less weight than a comparable OB jet. That would be my vote.

    SEMOJETMAN > 60/40 Johnson on 1752 Alweld

How old is your setup, and like others have asked, how beat up is the bottom? An impeller that needs sharpening, an aging motor, and a banged up hull can all add up. It's also going to depend on how much gear you're toting around. I'm sure semo can chime in, but i don't know that his speeds were...

short video of my 1856 60/40 4 stroke

Seems like it runs good.. 32 isn't too shabby considering the size of the boat or the conditions..youll def get another mph or two out of it on a sheet of glass..I'm sure it sips the gas too...

    Advice on a jet conversion....Again.

You can probably sell the 40hp, and find a 60/40 jet for close to the same money to be honest. IMO that's the route I would go. I think, as others have mentioned, you'll notice the difference when you load the boat up.
