    Batteries

I know some of you do not care for walmart batteries, but I have had good luck with them whether it's in my boat or on my lawnmower as long as I keep a battery maintainer connected when not in use. Just getting the boat ready to start another season of fishing when I discovered my starter...

WOT RPM range for 25hp Mariner

I have what I believe to be a 1984 Japan built Mariner 25hp. I believe the stainless prop that is on the motor is the wrong size and lugging my motor at WOT. But so far I have been unable to find the recommended RPM for WOT. Currently it runs at 4580 rpm and I suspect it should be something like...

    Fuel system vent

I'm having a problem with my fuel system. When you first connect the fuel line and start to prime it. As the fuel flows from tank to carb, the air has to vent. Is the carb bowl vent the only place that happens, or is there another vent somewhere?

    15hp with fuel starvation

I'm trying to help a friend with his outboard. I've got it narrowed down to knowing the issue is fuel starvation because I can keep it running if I squirt fuel into the throat of the carb. The motor will start and idle, but as soon as you start to open the throttle it will bog and die. The only...

The one that got away, (with a twist).

So I'm out fishing at a small (approx 12-15 acres) local pond this weekend that is known to have some decent crappie in it. The wind is a modest 18mph gusting up to 30ish at times, with even higher winds scheduled for later in the day. You may have read about some of the dust storms and...

Trying to replace gasket between powerhead and shaft housing

I'm pretty sure the gasket where the powerhead couples to the driveshaft housing is blown on my 84 Mariner 25hp. I don't have a service manual for this motor but in looking at the parts schematics, it appears there are only 6 bolts that hold the powerhead on. I've disconnected the throttle...

Any Evinrude Zephyr experts out there?

So I just discovered that my dad left behind a Zephyr outboard. I haven't been able to pin down the year or size yet and was hoping that someone here could help. No pics yet but I will get some soon. What I do know, the serial is 4878-04378, it does not have a recoil starter (nor does it look...

    Japanese Hotel Service

Japanese Hotel Service A Canadian salesman checked into a futuristic hotel in Tokyo Japan. Realizing he needed a haircut before the next day's meeting, he called down to the desk clerk to ask if there was a barber on the premises. I'm afraid not, sir, the clerk told him apologetically, but...

    Boat ramp confusion

So I show up at my local lake at noon this past Saturday to do a little crappie fishing. As I come into view of the ramp I see about 7-8 boats all around the ramp area. I didn't know if they were launching or loading. As I wheeled around to get out and get my boat ready to launch, I noticed that...

Tiller very hard to turn under power

Up until now, there's always been other things that seemed more important but now it's time to get this resolved. I've got an 86 mariner 25hp. When the motor is in neutral or not running, it is ridiculously easy to turn from full left to full right. No clicks, rough spots, biding, or anything...

    What's this johnnyrude worth?

I'm looking at possibly acquiring a 9.9 motor for use on HP restricted water. I have a potential motor but I'm not sure it's worth it. The owner says he got it in a boat deal but already had a bigger motor he used with the boat. He's had it sitting in his shed for 3 years and thinks it's a 76-78...

    Duck

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed...

Are you having this problem? Maybe you're not aware of it?

I'm not sure when this started, but I recently noticed that I no longer see an "EDIT" button/option on any of my post that are older than 1 day old. I noticed it when I tried to update my build thread. If I make a new post, the edit button/function appears in the top right corner of the post...

    Season starts with a thud........

Sunday and Monday were a tough couple of days to be starting this years fishing season. The crappie have started to bite in preparation for the spring spawn so I thought I'd get the boat out. Sunday was a nice day but the fishing was poor with only 1 crappie and 2 small bass. Things went a bit...

    Inflatable PFD recommendations

I've always been very comfortable in or around water. And I've never really worried about wearing my life jacket full time as long as I've had it with me while I'm in a boat. This year, besides being a year older (61), I'm dealing with a less than full use of one arm due to a torn rotator cuff...

Mother Nature is being a .....

Temps have been running in the mid to high 60's the last few days and is supposed to stay that way for the next several days. Of course my first thought when I saw the forecast temps was to break the boat out from it's winter storage and go drown some minnows or something. Then I stepped outside...

Help identify this Johnson OB pleas

So a buddy of mine comes up with this boat and motor and wants to try to have it ready by spring. I've managed to get it to start but now it's time to start ordering parts. The problem is there are no markings on the motor that either of us have been able to find. I've taken several pics from...
