Horse Power Ratings: to comply or to ignore?

How is the maximum rated power determined? In response to a mandate from Congress contained in the Federal Boating Safety Act of 1971 (FBSA), the United States Coast Guard issued regulations covering small outboard boats and the maximum rated horsepower for them. The regulations bind the...

Motorguide Trolling Motor and Cruise n' Carry

My guess would be in a race the Great White would take off and leave the little gas outboard for the first 30 feet but then the little 1.5 outboard would pass it up and wave good bye as it would leave the electric behind.

Inherited 2005 15hp mercury... No manual... HELP!

I have a 15 and the line between the turtle and rabbit is where you start it but its not a choke. You should have a choke knob on the motor that you pull out to start it when its cold. Pleasent Surprise for new boat

Floats much higher in the water than the 1434 and amazing how much more stable it is. Even I can walk around in it with no problem. I mostly fish with one of my grandchildren (5 to 19 years old) and feel they are much safer in this boat. Never take more than one at a time though.lol

    Pleasent Surprise for new boat

Pleasent surprise thursday when I took my new 1448 to the lake. I took my 15hp off my 1434 tin and put it on the new 1448 that weighs more than twice as much. I put everything that was in the old boat in the new boat and when I checked the speed it ran two mile an hour faster than my old 1434. (...

What should I list these motors for?

I don't know about everyone else but when I see anything on craigslist that seems really really high I don't even give it any consideration. I just continue looking elsewhere.

While working on YOUR various projects what is the worst...

Had many bad cuts and busted fingers with hammers but the worst was when I cut a third of my thumb off with a power saw a few years ago. Had to go to the Doc on that one.
