Hi from northern New Jersey.

Im new here and let me say I am impressed with the modifications and conversions I see on this board.

I have a 13 ft. all welded aluminum Duranautic v-hull that i bought 6 years ago. It was a bare hull with bunks. I originally had a Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke on her but it wasn't enough power for my liking. Ok when I was alone but not with another person on board. 2 years ago I repowered with a new Yamaha 15hp 4 stroke (boat max.) and now I can get her up to 28/29 mph. Thats about as fast as I think I want to go in this little boat in rough water.

I made some minor modifications to the hull to make it a little more fishing friendly and I have a couple of more planned.

I added the seats with swivels on some slide rails so I can adjust them for load and make it easier to step between compartments.

I wanted a bow mount trolling motor but had no way to attach it so I built a bow cover for it. It was made by screwing (drill pointed self tapping stainless screws) in some aluminum angle from HD to the rails. Then I cut out a piece of 1/2 inch ply and gave it 3 coats of Spar.
I bought some cargo bay carpeting from an Auto parts store for about $10 glued it down. Drilled some holes in it to bolt it down to the aluminum angle an used stainless hardware from a marine store.

The battery sits just under the bow cover. I didn't like just sitting it on the aluminum shelf so I made a drop in 1/4 inch ply board and covered it in some rug to sit the battery box on.

When I wired it up I added a circuit breaker with a switch. I have access to a 3d printer in work so I made a little custom switch cover.

Last year I added some velcro rod straps. They were super cheap and will probably save me a lot of money in the end.

Right now I am kicking around putting in a small floor. Nothing fancy, just maybe epoxy coated plywood with some rug wrapped around it and drop it in. The V is pretty shallow so I don't know if I need to put any ribs just yet. I will spend some more time searching this sight to try and spark an idea.

Regards
Sonny

P.S. Look at this pretty girl......

Nice little boat! Take it easy in the rough seas! My buddy had the 14' version of your boat with a yamaha 15 on it and he busted the hull chasing bonito in some serious chop! I think he snapped 2 or 3 of the keelsons in half. Just a word of caution, have fun out there!

There are two compartments that i want to put a flat floor in and Im still not sure how I want to approach it just yet.

The back compartment is pretty flat.

The front compartment has some V.

The pic doesn't show much but if I put a 15inch wide straight edge in line with the seat it drops 3 inches from it's underside.
Im thinking if I go that wide with 1/2 or 3/4 ply it shouldn't need any bracing underneath. 3 coats of spar and wrap with indoor/outdoor.

They would both be approximately 48 inches long. I fish in brackish water so I would probably remove them after each use to dry. I wouldn't want the salt water logged carpet sitting on the aluminum all the time.

Would marine vinyl be better for this?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am wanting to do this because the rivets trip me up all the time. Plus I have a wireless pedal for the trolling motor and it sits funny so it is clumsy to use.

Hi Sonny,

I just bought a 13 Duranautic with a 6HP Yamaha and am going to upgrade the engine to either a 9.9 or a 15. There is a lake that I would like to fish that limits the engine to a 9.9 or below. However, there is a lot of other areas that I can fish that I could use the 15 HP. I know you sold your 13 but wanted to know what your top end speed was with the 9.9 before you upgraded to the 15. I mainly fish with 2 adults and fishing gear. Or do you think I should skip the lake that limits the HP and go with the 15 HP.

Thanks for your help and feedback!

I was hitting about 22 mph when alone in the boat. It would slow down to about 18 with another person. The boat had a TM on the bow and a 50lb. battery in the nose. No issues planing at all. What model year is your DN13?

My 13 is a 2015! Currently, the boat has a 6HP and it goes 6 MPH. It's way under powered. Based on your numbers, with two people and gear, I would do about 15 MPH with the 9.9 HP engine. And with the 15 HP, you would do mid 20's with the two people and gear? Did you think that the 15 HP was too fast for the boat? I have priced out the 9.9 vs the 15 and the difference is $200 bucks. I guess I could skip the lake that requires a 10 HP and below and jump to the 15. Which motor do you recommend I get for the 13?

Thanks for all of your feedback and help!

I don't know what kind of weight you have in your boat but a 6 and a light load should get up on plane, as a kid we could plane off w a 4 HP and a 10-12' boat. My 7.5 sears could plane with 2 up and 6 gals of gas.

FWIW my friend has the 12' version of that hull with a Merc 15hp on it and it hits 20mph with 1 aboard and all typical gear.

My 6hp pushes my 1542 flat bottom very well. It does not plane it out, but it certainly scoots. Around 11mph with just me and my hunting stuff.

The 14ft v bottom I had would plane with an empty boat and myself.

With two adults (225-230 pounds each), fishing gear, and a three gallon portable live well I have not had any luck getting her on plane. Maybe it would happen with one skinny person and limited gear it would.

Oh well that's another beast all together, you've got a lot of meat in that thing. Better go for the 15.

This is a video of the boat on the move with the 15.

I liked the speed but I cursed the day i bought it when ever I had to pick it up.

Have you tried a Dole Fin on the smaller outboard?

Are you sure your not up on plane, 11 MPH seems a lot faster then hull speed, I'm thinking your on plane at 11 MPH.
