Well finally brought it home. Added the tiller handle today so I can actually use the boat until I'm able to come up with a steering cable. I'll add pics later of the build as I go. Got a lot of work to do but today was a bad day cause of rain...I would like to get the boat off of the trailer but this thing is super heavy...

Had to do some work on my starter today...got it turning great now. I promise I'll get some pics up soon.

Here are a few pics of the boat as it is now. I will add more as the build goes.

The transom was missing a cap so I took an old running board for a truck, cut it down and used it as one. Also made it alot more stronger. The smaller motor you see belongs to my son, looking around for a 10-12ft boat to put it on. The last photo shows the build I'm going for.

I like the lay out. with the steering on one side, it may balance the boat to have both the gas and battery on the opposite side of you. Or have your fishing buddies on the other side. balance grass hopper.

I was thinking of placing my TM battery in the front and the starting, lights, FF batteries in the back. Was going to pick up a small lawn mower battery to run nothing but the FF and lights. I will probably end up having my tank on the same side as the console and putting my bilge, aerator pumps in the center...all of my storage will be in the front. Not alot of room for everything I want but I'll make good of the space I have.

More ideas. I am thinking I will add a longer handle to steer the motor with and add the throttle/shifter controls to the boat and just remove the console all together. I know that adding a longer handle will restrict my turning a little but the handle will be coming straight off the front of the motor out to about middle ways of the rear bench with the option to remove it while using the casting deck. The tiller handle that is on it now is not right for it. It points to the left of the boat way to far for me...just a thought.

And my Layout of the boat:

Red= Decks
Blue= Storage
Yellow= Seats
Light Purple= Casting Seats
Light Blue= Running Lights
Light Green= Trolling Motor
Gray= Gas Tank
Dark Green= Batteries
Dark Purple= DF/FF
Dark Red= Control Panel
Straight White Lines= Lighting
Curvy White Lines= Styrofoam

I'm hoping all goes as planned...

Holy cow that thing is gonna fly with that 40hp Johnson on there!!
I was looking at the exact same model boat awhile back, it had a 20hp on it tho.
I really like that style SN boat,They seem to be built tuff!

I like it. Been looking around for a smaller motor though. I'm thinking the 40 will be to much for it. I would hate for it to act like this one:

The boat is real stable in the water which is what I need seeing as how I can't swim...It sits in the water well, I've had it out twice but no running motor at the time. My two sons, me, a full 6gal tank of gas, battery, and that motor, it was only sitting in the water maybe 3-4 inches. I stood on the live well and rocked it, or at least tried, it barely moved. I've been working on the live well to get it right but I have now ran into a problem and have to rethink my plans for it, can't add the drain where I wanted because of the way it's built, rivets on both sides of the middle rib...and the well sits flush with the bottom of the boat and is not completely flat...

So I decided to take the boat off of the trailer to fix a few patches I could see. Turns out there were more that I thought.

I removed all of the white bondo that was on it and tightened them, no leaks now :LOL2:

Here is the start of my live well, cut holes for the plumbing. Still need 1 more for the overflow and 1 through the side, plus one in the back for the bilge.

Boat stripped of everything I could get out to make it easier to get off the trailer and flip over:

More to come.

Looks like your making good progress!
I would keep the 40 on it if it were me and just use it remote/console.
That away you always have enough power when your under a load.
My cousin has a 40 on his 1648 and says he needs more motor..

My main concern with the motor is I do not believe the boat is rated for a 40. There is no capacity plate on it. All of the 1448's I have researched are saying max hp is 25. I don't know that much about boating laws but from what I have read, I can get into some trouble with it....

Added my storage box/seat pedestal mount back in today, the red boxes, I plan to add two more storage boxes in those:

Maybe some more storage in the rear bench:

Old overflow in the livewell, this is going to get a patch of some kind. I had planned to removed it completely but the rivets go all the way through and it's just to much trouble.

Some holes where they had regular bolts and nuts holding some Aluminum rod holders that I patched using JB Weld and some tape, pretty smooth but some sanding will make them even smoother. There were 25 of these holes and all turned out pretty smooth.

More to come as I get it.

Today I removed the console from the boat. Gonna put it up in case I decide later to go with a steering wheel, right now I'm set on a tiller. I also made myself a Depth Finder "Stand". I found a video on YT last night that inspired me to make one of my own. The one I found is bolted to the rib and the floor, I am going to rivet mine to the rib only. Got my switch panel in also so I am looking for somewhere to mount it.

The one I found:

This is the second one I made...I broke the first one bending it...

Mounted my Depth Finder Stand today. Also, since I took my console out...I had to find another place to put my key switch. I found a hole that had a plastic cover on it and it fit right in (Last Pic)
