there is an loom of wires coming off of the new engine main harness that i cannot figure out what they are for. there is a single yellow wire with a bullet connector on it coming off of the harness half way back that the suzuki dealer said is a tach wire. test lead?

You will need to get a wiring diagram for that motor to see what does what.

The big plug is likely for the Suzuki monitor guage, the rest should be power/grounds for additional gauges and a tach wire.

Yes if your tach is analog and programable.

For analog tach:

My, Suzuki 9.9 has 6 poles, so you have to be able to program the tach to the correct amount of poles for your engine. If the pole program is wrong, the tach will work, but show the wrong rpms.

Suzuki harness colors:
Yellow is signal (from ECU)
Gray and Red with Green tracer is +12 (fused near the terminals)
Black is -12 return

The tach should be marked, and may have one additional wire for the back light.

If the tach is programmable, it should have a button or switch, follow the tach manual for programming.

Hope this helps

Please post make, model, and part number of your tach.

Pretty sure the DF30 has 12 poles.

If your tach supports 12 poles then it should some basic wire connections.

Just of note, I have just installed an analog tach on my DF9.9 using the same wires in your picture.

I made a quick schematic of my DF9.9 tach hook up.

The speed ratio on my tach is 6, I think yours is 12.

It never hurts to take photos, before and after.

Remove and cap all existing tach wires, unless you know they are correct.

The tach I used had connectors with wires, so it was just a matter of splicing in 4 wires.

Some tachs have terminal lugs, so you would have to plug in jumper wires into engine harness (inline plugs) and run to tach with ring terminals connecting to tach.

The back light can be hooked up a few different ways. Simple way is to connect it to the same + wire on the Suzuki engine harness (back light will be on when key is turned to on).
