2.5 hp Merc. 4-stroke won't restart after the first start

In 2021 I was excited buying a 2.5 hp for my 12' jon boat. Followed the instructions exactly and took it out on the water. After starting it and allowing it to idle, I shut the motor off, titled it and tried starting it again in the down position. No go nor any time after. Had to a shop twice, was charged big time and it still doesn't work.
Any ideas???

Should not have paid for repairs until they demonstrate it was fixed... Takebit vack and make them fix it for free.

You may need to apply the choke at 1/2 to be able to start it when it's still warm. If it's been off for a while and has cooled, a full choke is needed.

Would run in a bucket but not on the water?

I had a similar situation. Turned out I had a bad coil. Worked fine when cool, but as soon as motor got up some heat it failed. After a half hour or so she'd start up again.
