63 Johnson 40 hp outboard

I have a 1963 Johnson 40 hp outboard motor. It is set up for controls. My question is is there any tiller set up from another Johnson or Evinrude motor that would fit this motor. I would like to change it over to a tiller for my Aluminum boat. Thank you

Just about any of the 25-25hp engine family will fit that engine. The trick is to get the shaft and gear on the engine side of the tiller! Your current position indicator knob and shaft will have to be changed out to make it work. Easy job and tillers are plentiful but just make sure to get all the parts off a donor engine.

Sorry for the late reply. No. It can be from almost any of them. Only thing you really need to keep in mind is that the older ones had pointed gears. those will not mesh well with the newer rounded ones so look accordingly.
