I recently purchased what is supposed to be an '89 Evinrude 70 hp, rebuilt of course. Problem is, all serial number stickers are gone and I am not sure what it really is. The cyl head number is 329835 which comes back to a 91-92 60/70 hp 3cyl. The block number is 334474 but I have not been able to match that to anything. Anyone know where to point me?

I guess those numbers are off the freeze plugs. If the carb throat diameter is different between the 60/70 you might be able to use that as an indicator.

A serial number is not what you go by on an OMC engine. Only the model number will tell you the year model.
Having said that you can usually find the correct year by matching the paint scheme to sales brochures.

No clue as to the model and the motor was repainted after it was rebuilt. Just trying to get ideas from the component part numbers.
I knew what I was getting into and rolled the dice anyway. Just trying to solve the puzzles.

Well, OMC changed the transom brackets and trim system around 1986 - 1988 or so. You can look up those parts and that should give you a ballpark idea.
Basically that engine was a mature engine platform anyway and there are millions of parts out there for them that will fit. The cylinder and crankcase changed around 1987 or so as well. Went from a 49 cu. in. block to a 56. Another way to look it up.
