Found this 'D'-shaped rubrail at a boat store, scrap roll of about 50', bought for $30. The top edge of the D sticks out a bit so it sits on the horizontal portion of the rail. To make it work I had to modify rivets and the rivet setting head, as there was only about 5/16" gap inside the rubrail, where some kind of plastic insert normally goes.

"Plastic insert" or rope. See if the right size piece of rope won't wedge in that track to cover the rivets.

It's my 12-year's boat ... she has already informed me that she wants to put a nice white rope in there ... but I like the idea of a white plastic, as the rope would get dirty.

Dale, how far apart are the rivets?

I would've killed for some of that stuff when I was rehabbing a jet ski last year that didn't have any of the factory rub rail tracks. That crap is expensive!

Sometimes that lip that you have on the top goes on the bottom The intended purpose is to seal and keep water from getting up behind the rub rail, but it really depends on your application and boat.

What you did looks great! Awesome find!
