Battery on floor in bow

I am thinking about mounting a battery in the bow of my boat. I saw Tin Man posting about the same thing and some of the recommendations was to mount it directly on the hull. Would mounting the battery directly to the hull in the front cause any issues with the hull from the weight of the battery?

I want to put a group 24 battery under my front deck for my trolling motor. I only have a cross brace near the hatch. Should I 5200 a piece of starboard down and then attach the battery tray?

Considering the pounding a flat-bottom gets in the bow, I think I'd put some kind of cushioning under it, too. Batteries dont like being banged around, and it shortens thier life rather badly.

Find a piece of closed foam like they use in gun cases, something about 1 1/2" to 2" thick and put in the bottom of your battery case to act as a cushion. Batteries dont like shocks from pounding. If a wet cell, watch for acid splashing out...thus the reason for using a good battery box! That acid and your aluminum hull wont like each other very well!! Make a support to attach the battery box to....do not set your battery directly onto the hull!!

Depends on where the weight will give you the best balance !!! On our smaller boats weight balance can mean everything when getting these boats to perform efficiently.

IMHO I would only consider a AGM battery
yea the bow is the sweet spot near the motor, and prob a great balance spot..
Look around for a good battery box, and cushion material
and make a good blacking plate to mount the box to the piece of starborad or azk
krap boxes will crack esp with pounding
I would not 5200 any plate to the hull.. that's pretty much forever..
ya gotta engineer a mechanical hold down/strap system..

Have been considering the same thing, but for weight distribution. I agree with what everyone here is saying. It'll likely kill your wet cell battery. The separators between the lead plates are thin and fragile. If one breaks from the battery bouncing around the cell shorts out and the battery is toast.

Yea, the AGM (GLASS MAT) batteries are made for rugged use.. atv, motorcycle, jeepin' ... more expensive of course, I had to replace one in my Ford EDGE.. and it was like ~? $300+ most places .. I got the Walmart version for about half.. and it got a better warranty than like Auto Zone, NAPA and Interstate.. go figure..
I run in salt water.. yea I know.. livin on the edge.. and I use dielectric grease on everything..
