I recieved a Sea King 12 ft aluminum boat as a gift it came with a sea king 5 hp motor by clinton motors i have the model and serial numbers for both. Any help would be appreciated.

Boat: Sea King 12ft from Montgomery Wards
Model:27125
serial:68 218497

motor: Sea King 5 hp by clinton from Montgomery Wards
model: XTV50555A
serial: 1584474
type: K505 61 06 A
I need to repair the motor and get it running. I also need to do some upgrades to the boat any ideas would be great. I know its a tippy boat so i am wondering if swivel seats added to the benches would make it to unstable. My plan is to use it on small bodies of water to take my son fishing.

Greetings to the TinBoats site. I have a wards SeaKing also. From a search there is this link:
https://www.fiberglassics.com/library/Sea_King
It looks like you have a 1967 model from the above link.
The specification sheet I'm reading says she cost new $165.
Length 11 feet 10 inches, Beam 49 inches, Weight 105 pounds,
Transom 44 inches, Max 10 HP motor, Passenger capacity weight is 500 pounds,
Type flotation is foam/aluminum.
Someone else should be able to answer your outboard motor question(s). I do know that several companies made the boats and motors for Montgomery Wards, putting the SeaKing name on them.
FWIW, here is a link to a 1962 restoration on the tube:

Hope this helps you somewhat, Best regards, Kris

wow thanks for the thorough response and the info from what i could find i was looking at 67 to 68 for boat and motor

No problemo, I'm sorry no motor heads have responded yet. Try searching for your Clinton motor and see what pops. I'm thinking it's a great motor that just needs some tlc and some fresh gasoline with the proper oil ratio. You could also go to other boat motor sites, or even post a motor question in this site and see who responds.
Here is a link to a great site that has proved helpful to me;

it appears your last character is actually the letter "I" and would decode as a 1984 Smoker Craft...
