Hi, picked up a 1970 12ft vhull. Gonna clean her up a bit and add a bunch of stuff. Currently working on a mahogany floor since I had a bunch of 4ft scrap. I will update with pics as it progresses. I'll prob start a different post for that. Got the boat and trailer for $750. It has an outboard motor 6hp, unknown make, though owner said evinrude. There is paint on the cover and the tag is very hard to read. I'm going to reseal any penetrations like the poorly installed fish finder. I'm also adding a Birmini roof for the hot days, interior lighting, spot lights, mahogany benches, possibly some seats,, and some carpeted hatches to hide gas can and equipment.

Progress on the mahogany floor. I was able to use 1 piece of pressure treated 2x4 ripped down in the middle to give plenty of support. The sides sit on a welded lip. The mahogany is tongue and groove so it acts as a subfloor.

More progress. I'd say 2/3 is done. Still plenty of woodworking left.

Yes, runs great. Was told 6.6hp evinrude, but still unsure. The original owner even made a contraption you clamp onto the motor with a hose to run the motor out of water.

Yeah it looks like a 6 hp. You can find the model number on the ID plate on the side of the transom clamp.

Progress. 80% done with the wood. Only thing left to build is compartments to house the battery and gas tank. Debating whether to cut into 5he bench to fit a 6gal or just install a 3gal behind the seat. I'm not building a bass boat with this. It's more of an all purpose boat since I have 3 little boys. If they get more involved with fishing I will buy a bass boat or a bigger jon boat and build something custom.

I used only 1 - 2x4 for the floor support. The bottom is wrapped for no contact. The mahogany is actually very light. It is definetly not heavier than any of these bass boat conversions. The mahogany takes the place of plywood. Maybe added 150lbs tops.

I did figure out that the motor was a 1975 Evinrude 6.

Hope the maiden voyage goes well. Keep us posted 😀

Update, primered, painting (1/2 done). Need to add gray stripe and top rail pinstripe. Mahogany is sanded and ready for linseed oil. Then Bimini top install, and other accessories. I still need to fabricate a cover for the gas tank and battery. I have the carpet and wood ready to go.

Great project bud! I'm really liking the way this boat is turning out. Nice job!

Thanks so much. It's my first boat. I've got the itching to make a fishing rig now after finding tiny boat Nation, lol.

This boat is just for cruising around the lake, so I wanted to keep it classy on a budget. So far I have invested about $1,300.00 total in boat and trailer. I have all the parts to finish up. The trailer is also getting an overhaul in the near future.
