I modified my princecraft and changed it from a 15 to a 20" transom to better fit the long shaft Evinrude 35. Ran it that way for years, but recently came across a nice Evinrude 50, so I decided to go for it since it's the same weight as the 40 HP that the factory Starfish 20 is rated for.

I am VERY happy with the upgrades. Smooth, quiet and strong. It seems comparable in fuel burn to the 35, especially in mid-range speed. It tops out around 36, but I typically run it 25-30 MPH.

Here is video of me cruising the other day. It was so nice, I didn't even feel like fishing:

Here is a picture of the transom work. It is made from 2"x2" schedule 40 square aluminum pipe run from gunnel to gunnel. Thick and strong, when stacked and welded, it makes an incredibly strong transom that will never rot. So much better than replacing with plywood again.20210907_181343.jpg
