I'm sorry......but "begging"? Please clarify what you are defining as "begging". Neophytes asking for advice and verbal assistance? Others asking for a free-bee or handout?

I am apparently missing something, here.

Did you see my message about Supporting Membership and the decals (https://www.tinboats.net/account/upgrades)?

This site heavily relies on Supporting Memberships and I didn't hear back so just wanted to follow-up to make sure you got my message.

Cheers!

Only thing that bugs me is the size of the image for the stickers. It takes up 3/4 of the screen. Real nice though if you want to print your own stickers without donating.....just saying.

This has been a great source of information, and seems to be well controlled. Not filled with a bunch of arguing and trashy gossip like some forums. For the anount of info I have recieved from here, I don't mind the contribution at all

I am thinking the term begging is a bit harsh, but that's just my opinion. What I do know is that every time someone clicks on a sales banner that this site makes $. If someone buys from said web site there's even more $ made. I am a member of quite a few web forums and almost all have a donation prompt or ask. (This isn't free to keep running) So I log on, which by the way is a form payment and I shop from time to time via the banners. I have even donated to a select few forums that I have been a member of for years. As said above, there is valuable information posted which has a monetary value, IMO, but the comradery & friendships made are priceless. That`s my bit on the topic......................I'm goin fishing!

Really starting to look like a guilt trip born of pure greed.

Yeah, there is a little guilt tripping going on. I'm not sure how much is greed vs a need to cover expenses. Either way, it was never brought up by the previous forum owner. When I start seeing judgement posts is when I non renew.

I donated because of the lack of politics. Many motorcycle sites end up just talking politics vice motorcycles. Once in awhile someone will slide a political wise crack in on here but then it ends there which is good. I did receive a few conversation post but that did not bother me. I really do not believe anyone is getting rich running this site but do believe they need some money to continue. I like this site a lot it beats trying to learn all about little boats on You-tube.

More than happy to donate and keep the site going. It's an inexpensive way to learn and entertain oneself. And most of the threads and posts are normal and not harassing in nature. As long as I use this site I'm willing to pay a small stipend for it. After all, the owner has to make a bit of profit to carry on.

I am obviously on these forums a lot (probably too much). I've asked lots of questions, made lots of dumb comments and have learned a lot. You guys hit on one of the things that makes this site great, namely friendly conversations with not too much arguing. Being a capitalist at heart, I'm not opposed to someone making a profit. I was also recently reminded of the other benefits of being a TB Supporter. One is the longer window for edits, which I use liberally, Lol.

We all know the reasons to be a TB Supporter. Still, making a $$ contribution is an individual decision. One of the reasons I wish this thread had not occurred is the potential for someone feeling criticized for their decision. I see that happen on other forums. I think my comment might come across as kind of tedious - sorry about that.

I'm not seeing it. I also doubt that either Jim or the new owner made or are making much if any significant money from the site.
I have 4 notices and a HUGE banner at the top of every page, all within the past 6 months and have never before seen this type of begging on any other site.

Paid memberships? sure. Extra perks? Fine. Secret forum no one is going to post in…….. well ok, don’t really see that going over big here as this board is not busy enough.

I’m someone who has actually built, ran and sold my own board, I know what the profit vs input costs are and I can tell you straight out that this is a profitable business on its own, has been for years.

Company’s (Vertical Scope I’m looking at you) but these boards and keep adding advertising, making you pay for features and now apparently brow beat you until you join.

They ruin boards via changing the viewer experience for the worse.

I personally don’t care for the changes and decided to speak up as these new developments have kept me from wanting to check in as often as I used to.

Just my .02c

If the OP seemed a bit cryptic, it was designed to be as to not trigger an automated response. The wording of the PMs I’m reading seems like chat gp generated content.

I’m not judging the membership at all.

People wanting to give is just peachy, but do we really need a huge reminder at the top of every page in concert with bi monthly begging notices?

And yes, I consider it begging when it rises to the level of panhandlers at stoplights.

The board has always been civil, that is due to the quality of the membership, not because people donate money.

Donate or do not, that is up to the individual.

I’ve seen plenty of boards bought out and changed in a way that ruins them, and I fear this is another that will go that way if things keep progressing at the current rate.
