The fun part is this is either AI generated or mass posting across multiple boards and not even from a person taking the time to check in with you as presented.

I have 4 notices and a HUGE banner at the top of every page, all within the past 6 months and have never before seen this type of begging on any other site.

Paid memberships? sure. Extra perks? Fine. Secret forum no one is going to post in…….. well ok, don’t really see that going over big here as this board is not busy enough.


I’m someone who has actually built, ran and sold my own board, I know what the profit vs input costs are and I can tell you straight out that this is a profitable business on its own, has been for years.

Company’s (Vertical Scope I’m looking at you) but these boards and keep adding advertising, making you pay for features and now apparently brow beat you until you join.

They ruin boards via changing the viewer experience for the worse.

I personally don’t care for the changes and decided to speak up as these new developments have kept me from wanting to check in as often as I used to.

I'm on my work computer and not seeing any of this. I also don't see it on my home computer. I decided to open the site on my phone and all the ads pop up. I'm not interweb literate enough to understand why. I normally never surf the web on my phone, but I understand a lot of people do.

As far as "begging" on other sites. Have you opened the weather channel or youtube lately?

Ads are one thing, I get that. PMs asking for money is more akin to panhandling imo.

Ohhh...newspapers are nothing but bad, corrupt news, why anyone wants to mess up there day with a newspaper is beyond me !! And yes I look at my boating forums most everyday always hoping my 60 yrs of boating gives me something I can pass along to help others. People will pay 125 or more each month just to watch TV !!! I get much more enjoyment off my boating/ fishing forums and they are much cheaper than newspapers or TV

Yup! I sit here and have my cup of joe' and do some bill's 5 min. their history and I can enjoy my "TinBoats" site.
Hasn't been a site I've come across I have got so much info dirt cheap! & I feel made some friends who I just may meet one day out on the water's shake their hand & say again thank you!

You might consider finding another site to belong to. I don't recall membership being mandatory for anyone.

I used this site for a few years and finally joined in 2020. It wasn't until this year that actually became a supporter because I didn't know you could actually do that until I happen to look at the top right corner and seen a "little letter" with a number in it. Clicked on it and found people have been "emailing" me and I didn't even know it (no, I wasn't ignoring anyone I just didn't know) One was for actually joining so I did. The knowledge I have gotten from this site is worth it to me for the small price. I really don't pay attention to the banners and ads so I guess I have never noticed anyone asking for anything.

If the OP seemed a bit cryptic, it was designed to be as to not trigger an automated response. The wording of the PMs I’m reading seems like chat gp generated content.

I’m not judging the membership at all.

People wanting to give is just peachy, but do we really need a huge reminder at the top of every page in concert with bi monthly begging notices?

And yes, I consider it begging when it rises to the level of panhandlers at stoplights.

The board has always been civil, that is due to the quality of the membership, not because people donate money.

Donate or do not, that is up to the individual.

I’ve seen plenty of boards bought out and changed in a way that ruins them, and I fear this is another that will go that way if things keep progressing at the current rate.

No one is forcing you to stay...been on here for years have never noticed any begging, donation ads, never recieved any propaganda about supporting this sight....then again, I don't look for it ! Perhaps if you just enjoyed the articles and informative info given and quit spending time looking for problems, the site might be more interesting !

I'll make a suggestion to whoever runs this board, it might be a good way of raising funds by selling "Merch" as my kids call it.

Maybe print up some bumper stickers we can attach to our Tin Boats, coffee mugs etc.
