Hi all,20230118_142618.jpg 20230118_142604.jpg new member here..
I am trying to clean off old flotation foam and dirt build up...just wasn't sure if there were specific chemicals available to use for the job.
I just acquired an Alumacraft Lunker V16 and am attempting to replace the floor.🙂

For really grungy aluminum, Napa sells an acid based aluminum brightener, a gallon is like $25 and it will go a LONG ways since you can cut it 50/50 or more with water. Purple power works great and it's not nearly as hazardous to handle, but I've never seen anything that works better.

It's also worth noting that purple power is known for dulling/staining polished aluminum. Still fine for a boat bilge.

What would the gray stuff be underneath the paint?
Also, I'm trying to sand the rivets and seams inside the boat so that I can apply Gluvit - how much sanding is adequate enough? Do they need to be squeaky clean? I attached a pic of what I sanded(I am going through $8.48 3M silicon carbide wheels way to fast)
