    Prevalence of "Electric Only" Lakes?

Not true, I do! I agree, I'm not a tree hugger and totally understand why 2 strokes are frowned upon because I've also seen that oil slick in the barrel when I'm tuning up. And people are irresponsible, they run full throttle in no-wake areas and that will erode the shore. I get all of that...

Running Outboard Cables / Fuel Through Splashwell

Airshot, thanks for the input. I have seen them but didn't know if where were other things happening there other than a hole and a grommet, and if I were to do it I would do it at the high point of the splashwell anyway.

Running Outboard Cables / Fuel Through Splashwell

Is it advisable to do this? I'm not talking about just drilling a generic hole in the splashwell to run things through, but more some kind of grommet or something that doesn't negate the purpose of a splashwell but allows for a cleaner outboard setup. I've seen one device that was a long steel...

    Rivet or Weld Holes?

Thanks Sonny! Yea, I have a handful of stainless on this boat and it all seems to be fine currently. This boat has never seen salt water to my knowledge and won't under my watch, that big of water - even the Great Lakes - would seem dangerous in a low profile boat like this, or at least...

    Prevalence of "Electric Only" Lakes?

I've seen plenty of no-wake lakes for small bodies of water mostly intended for fishing, but haven't seen any electric only. I would think that electric lakes would first start with charging a premium for gas boats that eventually drives gas boats out of coming - sort of like cigarette taxes...

    Prevalence of "Electric Only" Lakes?

I happened to be watching a cool Jon rebuild video a few weeks ago and it was all geared out for batteries and an electric engine because "more and more lakes are prohibiting fuel engines for environmental reasons" which I thought was interesting (the idea of how much fuel is burned to mine...

Only when I make pasta 😂

    Rivet or Weld Holes?

Thanks for correcting me on that, I thought I had read that SS was ok to use on aluminum and after searching for why I thought this was the case I found that it is OK to an extent under some circumstances, the exception is "except in marine environments". Not that I had planned to use SS on my...

Just got a "new" old boat. I think it's a 16' Lone Star, but nothing really matches up.

You can always put an pre 85 motor on there, they were rated from the head instead of the prop so the HP at the prop could be between 5-10% off from the head, meaning you could put a 15 on there and still achieve 12 at the prop, still within legal limits - although you have to convince anyone...

Replacing transom wood- without disassembling aluminum

How much purple power acid wash did you have to use on that? 😬. Took me 3 gallons to get that level of black off my boat before it looked like normal aluminum again. Great job, that's an outstanding before and after!

Removing Boat to Work on Trailer

I had considered that as my first option but I would have to rent a cherry picker. The technique the guy used in the video requires a bit more prep work to make sure your trailer clears the cradle but it's pretty slick once you see it in action.

    Polishing Aluminum

Are you combing out the wheel regularly while polishing to get all the gunk out? I'm wondering if the build up is the wheel throwing out burned junk and hitting a spot with grooves or crevices that cause it to get stuck. Beautiful shine you got there, I've been doing the same to mine, similar...

    Confessions of a Total Doofus

I'll add my own anecdote here. I've got a pretty beefy motor on my tinny and I was launching, got all lined up and eased her into reverse. Perfect. And she stuck in reverse! Cable picked that exact moment to stick on me and it was a busy weekend with someone launching right next to me and...

    Rivet or Weld Holes?

Thank you, most of these aren't on a seam they were just drilled into the side, presumably for some sort of accessory like a rod holder or something like that, but I didn't realize there was a sealant between joints (but it makes a lot of sense) so I'll certainly be on the lookout for that...

    Rivet or Weld Holes?

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I haven't considered pop rivets is that they don't really match the current rivet and, yes, I'm THAT person, haha. 😂

Removing Boat to Work on Trailer

Thanks! The famed Tower of Power straight 6. Goes through gas like nobody's business but it's fun drinking it up! The best part of these towers is the sound it makes, it just sounds mean fast and tough! Vroom!

Removing Boat to Work on Trailer

Much easier with your boat than mine. I've got this motor on the back of my 325# tinny (and yes, it flies like it's on drugs), so it needs much more "oomph" than that 😬.

    Rivet or Weld Holes?

When I picked up my old boat the previous owner(s) had no concept of galvanic corrosion and managed to screw on un-galvanized and non-stainless screws in a few locations. I'm in the process of removing this garbage, most of which holds nothing at all anymore so who knows what it was put there...

Removing Boat to Work on Trailer

Take a look at the video I posted above, I've seen this done with various devices (expensive boat jacks to just cribbing) but this is much more stable, doesn't take much to build and is a one-man de-trailering effort.
