A freind bought a boat with a motor guide trolling motor on it. It says 101lb 36volt but its wired 24 volt. The guy said he had a dealer change it to 88 lb trust. Anybody ever heard of doing this? Why would you do this?

Yes I've heard of people doing this. It is mainly because something goes wrong with the trolling motor & they have it rebuilt. Maybe the cost was less for the 24 volt parts vs. 36 volt or they didn't want the extra battery weight in the boat. Me personally I would have kept it 36 volts but I don't know the boat size & circumstances for which the change was to have taken place.
