So, I had to go to BPS yesterday to pick up a battery and charger for my new fishing rig. There was a ProMariner rep there and I told him that I currently only had 1 battery, but that within the next year, i'd like to add a trolling motor and second battery to my setup. He recommended that I go ahead and get an onboard 2-bank charger...and he said that I would just have to connect both banks to the single battery....I took his advice and bought the ProMariner ProSport 12 Dual Bank Charger, but I didnt see anything in the instructions about being able to connect it to a single battery. Any thoughts on this?

it sounds like the rep was correct.
for the pro mariner site:

Q. Can I connect the charger to only one battery? What do I do with the unused leads or terminals?

A. If you are using a waterproof charger and want to charge 1 battery on a 2 bank charger, you will need to connect both leads on that one battery. If you are charging 1 or 2 batteries with a 3 bank charger, you will need to connect all the leads on the 1 or 2 batteries. At no time should the charger be run without all the leads being connected to a battery(s).
