Carpeting or vinyling over pedestal base - Anyone try this?

I was at Bass Pro the other day and saw a few Trackers that had the carpet over the pedestal base. I was wondering if any fellow members have given this any thought or tried this? Thanks!

I'm using Tuff Coat rubberized paint on my build - my bass boat (and my grandparent's dock before it) were both carpeted, and I can't tell how much time I've wasted trying to dig a barbed hook out of a carpet or getting rid of the stench of Pickerel from the carpet on a hot sunny day...no more carpet for me.
