So I have been running my 14' Lone Star Commander with a 10hp tiller and I recently bought a 73 Merc 200 20hp which came with all the good stuff, steering, cables, mercontrol, etc and I have been debating on whether to make a side console or a center console. My boat is 54 inches wide at the bottom and 60 inches at the beam. Seems wide enough for me to move around with a center console or a side console. I have seen plenty of mod-v boats with stand up center consoles, kinda like a boston whaler but no shallow v's. I am wondering whether that would be a smart endeavor or if a sit-down type would be better. I am up for any challenge, I just want to make sure it is safe. I'll definitely use aluminum for the material as I have access to a lot of old road signs and a tig welder. (Roads signs make great flat stock for tin boats) Lots of questions here but I've been searching the web and I can't seem to find much. Any advice is definitely appreciated and I will definitely post any pics of the console I make.
