Fish finder question

Hello, I just got a new boat and it had an old fish finder in it... hummingbird Pirhanna 1...

anyway it powers on and works... only you cannot see the display, I have to shield it with both hands and look really close to see, but it is working.. however, I wouldnt be able to see it if I was fishing and looking down at it.... I really only want it for depth purposes... any suggestions??? I thought about taking it apart and seeing if maybe the screen is just cloudy on the inside?? Thanks for the help...

First thing I'd check is if there is a darkness/lightness setting in the menu somewhere. Second thing would be the screen. Third would be the amount of current getting to it.

Could be like a solar powered calculator, where it will still function okay, but the screen will fade as you cover the panel up.
