Fishing License

Just found out that at 65 years old I can get a lifetime fishing license for $15.00 dollars. Had no clue until this morning when I checked Oklahoma's fish and game section on line. Regular licence is $25.00 dollars a year. Not bad at all.

I just turned 65 and now I don't pay anything. I have to carry my ID to prove my age, but that's it. Nice.

Son of a gun. My 2023 fishing Lic was $76.94 (including the second rod validation). I can get a lifetime license for $644.50. I'm 71 years old. TB rules prevent me from expressing what I think of my state's handling of fees.

Not to add salt to the wound but Oklahoma allows up to seven fishing poles per person. No extra charge.

Hmmmmm. I just checked Iowa's regs. Senior's license, (65+), 61.50 for life.
BUT; (copy/paste)
The new Armed Forces Hunting and Fishing licenses are now available to residents of Iowa who served in the armed forces of the United States on federal active duty. The new annual fishing license, or hunting and fishing combo license, is $5, with a $2 processing fee.

I hadn't heard that one. Looks like I'll have to take advantage of that.

I bought my PA senior lifetime fishing license 10 years ago and also a lifetime trout stamp. Don't remember what I paid for them then, but as of 2023 just the senior lifetime license is $76.97, and the lifetime trout stamp is no longer available and must be purchased every year.
Pa had tried to change it so those who had purchased the senior lifetime trout stamp had to buy a trout stamp every year, NOPE, grandfathered!!!

Here in Ohio, there was a lifetime license for seniors but they changed that into a reduced anual fee of 10 bucks. Not complaining as they have been putting money into better launching areas. With the great fishing around the state, guess I can' t complain...

Why not go all Constitutional on them and not pay for any license? We have a right to hunt and fish (freedom to pursue happiness) they cannot by law turn a right into a privilege. They can't make you buy a lic. Of course, it's easier to pay the ransom and STFU.

That license money is used for fishing acess and ramp improvement. Without that money, there would be no public acess nor boat ramps. I have been around this area for over 60 years and have witnessed all the improvements to public acess, fish managenent programs etc. Don't mind paying my fair share !

I am 70 years old and here in VA my fresh and salt water licenses cost me nothing (NOW), I still have to but a Trout stamp and some species tags and I have to register each year to fish in the Chesapeake Bay but I can do all of that online so no issues having to drive out and about to get things done, sorry your state is backasswards on their senior citizens and fishing licenses.

Just renewed my 'seniors' (70+) fishing license in New York for an exorbitant $5. At $10 a lb for most fish these days, it won't be long before I recoup that! Ha! Ha!

I get what you're saying, but goobment don't care about your rights, only the money-grabbing restrictions they impose on us.

My son and I bought lifetime fishing licences about 18 years ago. I think I broke even a couple of years ago, but my son made out, because he moved out of New York. They nail you for out of state. It is also much more convienent than trying to go buy a licence every year. Don't miss that.

You know, ever since I've had to have one, which would be when I was a teen, I have never been asked to show my fishing license. Fact is I can probably count the times I've seen a fish & wildlife warden on one hand. I don't begrudge paying to support our outdoor sports, but I truly do wonder where this money goes.

Our state has a discount program for disabled vets, which is great. I suggested to my state representative that all veterans should get a break on fishing & hunting licenses. Never heard back.

I'll ring in on this for Maryland. My senior license is $5 for everything including trout. I have only seen a game and fish warden 1 time in the last 5 years. They are all patrolling the Chesapeake it seems. The license money is supposed to go to supporting some of the conservation and stocking programs. My opinion is they are ignoring many things. Illegal fishing and boating practices are running unabated in the reservoir I fish. The state leaves enforcement up to the Baltimore City water shed police, until last year only one officer was assigned to patrol, and no overtime allowed. We got a new officer that at least is enforcing the boating regulations, 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I have seen people using nets, not small minnow seins but nets gill nets 30 -40 feet in length. They are so sure of not getting caught, early evening at the boat launch. A call to the DNR only got the answer "we leave enforcement up to the Baltimore police." It is frustrating seeing fish of all species being hauled in by the poachers and being helpless to stop it. If legal I would equip my boat with a cannon and sink them.

Ha. In California? I wouldn't be surprised if they charged extra for being a veteran.

Fish and game in Oklahoma are everywhere. They patrol on foot at times in rather thick brush. Always very friendly and do not enforce the alcohol laws while fishing from the shore. Boat different story. There are several programs run by fish and game that benefit both hunters and fisherman.
