Changing the needle valve and float on my 9.8 mercury. Is there a way to set it or just put it in?

Just got my parts. The new valve has a spring on it. I don't remember the old needle having one. Might be why it's sticking

It's a 1975. Got it back together and in the test tank. Ran good for 20 minuits, I'll have it on the water this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed!

awesome. i have a 71 i'm currently tinkering with (first merc, usually a johnyrude guy) and it took me a bit to figure out the carb as they are COMPLETELY different from the OMC's. i ended up having to set the needle/float pretty far off from the recommended specs to get it to run right/stop flooding. hope it works out for you.

Started right up ran good at full throttle for 2 minutes and slowly died. Fired back up and ran perfect the rest of the day. Issues are better but not solved.
