missing something on the bow, ??

ok am i missing something here? or it just me. there was some evidence of some wood however i am not sure how to tie in the bow. planning on using some 1x material, standard wood (douglas fur). the question is how do i tie in at the bow? just slot the wood and beat it in? do i need to taper the wood? can i use something other than wood? as the wood will sit on the trailer's roller.

I'd make something out of aluminum and rivet it. But that's just me.

Fir will rot quickly. Use cedar

Aluminum and rivet, seal around the seam with in weld.

i ended up using a hockey stick extension. ran it through a table saw, filled the void with builders epoxy, as well as the shaft. then i placed it in the slot, a couple of clamps and waited till it dried.
a little belt sanding and voila! problem solved. i painted it with two coats of deck paint. hope this works.
