What are they measuring in a Jon boat

where are we measuring from for the width?

Most manufacturers using the 1448 are talking about 14' length and 48" bottom width. Never have seen a designation of 15.550

1236, 1432, 1648...first 2 numbers are the length and the second 2 numbers and the bottom width.

Manufactures commonly round the length to whole number. So a 1448 might actually measure a few inches shorter than 14 ft.

Yes they do I've seen some a little shorter some a little longer. My current boat is 6" longer than "model number"

I got ripped off my boat is 6 inches short.

I can remember the days when they used gunwale measurments, then along came centerline measurments.....boy, do I feel old !!

I never understood the purpose of the gunwale measurement... except to make a boat sound bigger than it actually is. My first boat was a 190, but it was only 18' long. I found that really annoying.

Actual length is much more useful, in my opinion.
