some - but not all - of the vintage serial numbers will tell you
exactly what the boat is by the serial number stamped into the hull.
52 = the year, 1952
14 = the size, 14ft
357 = the count off the production line.
so, with that in mind, you "could" have a 14ft, 1952 Clipper
that rolled off the assembly line as #357 for that year.
and the length varied GREATLY in the vintage years . . . .
13'6" for a 14ft boat
14'2" for a 15ft boat,
etc etc etc.
just make sure that serial number goes on your new registration.
and if they will let you, put Orlando Clipper and 1952 in the appropriate boxes.
sort of like the VIN number on your car - it must be correct.
I restored a 1930 Buick a few years ago and the VIN was 300000009.
which stood for the 1930 year and number nine off the line for that year. pretty cool.
and it would be cool if you found the plate somewhere on the inside of the hull.
or, once you start your project, you could have one custom made if you wanted.
and, you can sand down the oval logo plate smooth and apply a new red vinyl decal.
