I have a 1978 AMF crestliner 16' has a 25hp johnson outboard.

I would Iike to convert it from the bench seats to a more simple floor plan like below.

Would all that plywood make the boat to heavy?

Suggestions?

This boat will remain a tiller for the rest of its life.... for this old of a boat I'm not wanting to hassle with steering cables and throttle controls.

I don't think weight as much as stability may be an issue.
How wide is yours in comparison to the Lund in the photo?
I would try to keep your seats in the centre as compared to 2 wide,IMHO though.

Good point ... talked to the wife ... might just leave it alone for now plenty other work needs to be done
 
The bench's give the hull it's structural support. The boat you want to mimic has side boxes for support.
