I bought a 1448 two years ago that was painted with marine paint. It had some corrosion from salt water use. I am debating wether to strip it and repaint it or just start over with a new boat. Things I do not like are:
1 it's a tiller and I need a side console for what I use the boat for.
2 I...
I was going to wait till winter but since it gets so cold, I am thinking about repainting now. I hate the blue marine paint the former own had on the hull. It's in bad shape so I was going to apply aircraft paint remover, let it soak then wash it off.
What is the best method for sanding? I have...
I used a 2 inch hole saw then touched them up with a 4 inch grinder a sanding pad. I put them in today with the G-Flex. It worked great, I hope that took care of the leak.
I think that is a good price for that boat. A new Merc 25 HP manual start is like 3400.00 at bass pro. The 15 HP is 2400 I believe. I just naught a lowe l1448m 2002with 25 HP 2002 Merc for 2000.00 trailer is a 2010. Motor runs great. I had water pump replaced, new plugs, new anode, and I am...
I took my engine off the transom and the piece of plywood that was under the motor mount. As suspected, I had some corrosion going on. One member said I had some electrolysis going on from the salt water and suggested that I replace my engine anode. I ordered an anode for the engine. I took a...
I would not think it matters on the inside. I have seen from researching post that guys have built from the channel stuff you can buy at lowes. There are online metal suppliers that gives description of the different types of alloys. I just picked up a big quarter inch sheet at a scrap yard for...
I found some erosion around some transom bolts. I took the bolts out and clean around with brass wire brush dremmel tool. One noticeable hole turned out to be several. The wood in the transom seems to be solid. The other bolt is not corroded as bad. What would be the best fix to get me through...
Well I water checked the hull and the only hole I can find is the hole next to the transom bolt as pictured above. I also started the motor and it seems to be running hot. I think I need to have the water pump replaced. I will have to see the best way to fix the leak for now.
Maybe I should of took the pics up side down. You can see the hole in the aluminum around the transom bolt. I thought about sanding, digging out the defect and adding some west two part epoxy. Here is some more pics
