I took a few pics today. Not a lot of progress. I laid out the nose piece, just need to trim to fit. Here's a different view of my command center :)

Navionics worth it in Lowrance Elite 4?

This would be another first for me. The last new unit I bought was a Garmin 160 when they were new on the market. So, it's been several years. Cabelas had a good sale on the Lowrance Elite 4 sonar/gps so I picked on up last fall. I have no experience with the mapping cards. With such a...

    My 2004 3.5hp 2-stroke Johnson or new 6hp Merc?

I'm debating on whether or not to replace my '04 Johnson 3.5hp 2-stroke with a new 6hp Mercury. I like the convenience of not mixing gas and I'm sure a little smoother operation. In my 14' I get around 5.5mph according to the gps. That's with me only and fishing gear, anchor, extra gas, etc...

Been a while since I've posted any updates. Pretty busy with work and school....this rediculous winter hasn't helped either  My new Minn Kota Power Drive arrived yesterday. Mom bought me a stainless Worth anchormate for Christmas and my stepdad fabed my stainless nose piece. I bought...

    Building a boat from scratch?

What would be a few things to take into consideration? Have any of you ever done this?

My first build: 1964 Galaxy Spartan 14ST

I finished wiring the lights and bilge pump and installed a new lowrance sonar/gps. I made a little panel for my switches. Added two Scotty rod holders and a ram mount for the lowrance. Also mounted the battery up front. I'm still waiting on my new stainless nose piece. When I get it ill...

Are the small 12v gel batteries compatible with onboard chargers? I noticed some of these batteries come with a charger.

    Help with livewell idea

Here is the idea I have... Using a five gallon bucket as a livewell, for bait only. I am thinking of cutting a hole in the decking that the bucket would sit down in. Then running a livewell pump to it to fill it. Another pump to pump the water out. I was wondering if there is a way to use...

My first build: 1964 Galaxy Spartan 14ST

Okay, here are some pics... New transom with super solid 14ga stainless cap! Bilge pump installed The board was used to make sure the piece of angle was mounted even with the bench. This will support the rear deck.., I took it out for a wet test and it passed. Motor fired right up too...

My first build: 1964 Galaxy Spartan 14ST

The paint is finished on the outside. Took it got inspection this morning. In Ohio boats under 14' do not need a title. Well mine had a title because the previous owners thought that since the model is 14ST that the boat was actually 14', well it is 13'8". So hopefully I'll get my corrected...

My first build: 1964 Galaxy Spartan 14ST

Heat guns make decal removal so much easier! Finished surface prep and applied the Gluvit to all seams and rivets as well as the transom wood. For any one that might doubt that a quart of Gluvit is enough for a 14' boat it is more than enough. Two coats will not be necessary. First coat of...
