    Transom repair question

I like that answer. Thanks DaleH. I still don’t understand why there was a giant piece of plywood on the exterior. My boat will likely stay in the water during the season and it didn’t seem right to have that much wood in contact with the water for prolonged periods

    Transom repair question

The L-bracket is riveted to the boat. It seems sturdier than a typical piece of angle aluminum. I am unable to tell if it is factory or PO installed. It is not tied to the knee.

    Transom repair question

Do you have a link to the page? It is not in your signature. Also another issue is a have a type of "L"bracket that is riveted just above the knee. Would you take it out? Cut an big notch in the transom for it? Any suggestions are welcome

    Help! Crack in hull

Drill 3/16 at each end of the crack, from the outside. I did not go deep at all as i was a little worried. Something about creating s bigger hole in the boat had me second guessing. Nonetheless, JB weld on the inside and outside. I used the putty type on the outside. I left it for 24hrs then...

    Transom repair question

Dale H, had a look at your transom repair guide. Very useful. In my case when you say both pieces inside: Do you think the small transom piece (see my pictures), x2 would suffice? Or would you actually remove the knee (which is riveted) and put in a bigger piece?

    Help! Crack in hull

Thanks again for all your comments. I went to the weld shop. He did not want to weld it. Something about it being to close to the keel and he could burn/contaminate some of the floating material? I did not know there was anything in there? My knowledge with boats is next to nothing (hence why...

    Help! Crack in hull

Thanks for all the replies. I plan on getting a quote on the weld job soon. I was told they charge 90$CAD/hr. theduded, I think there is previous JB weld and some silicone? at some spots. If it's more than 50$ to weld, I will try some DIY tricks. It is causing a very slow leak.

    Help! Crack in hull

Awesome links gwar822. That’s the answer i wanted to hear! Thank you. I am planning to use my boat in the river behind us. Nothing aggressive or rocky. Therefore, your JB suggestion sounds like a good one.

    Help! Crack in hull

No water intake when i took the boat out for a test before buying it. Now that i’ve removed the floor and cleaned it up a bit, i’ve come to notice a crack in the front. Looks like they’ve tried patching it up before? How would you go about fixing this? I’ve been hesitating on: 1) aluminum...

    Transom repair question

Thanks for your inout DaleH. I got some good information from your post. I am bringing the outboard to the local shop for a check up on Wednesday and will get to work on the transom afterwards. I’m excited and nervous to see what it looks like without the wood. I just noticed a leak in the...

    Transom repair question

Thanks for the reply. My local hardware store said they only have “regular construction” plywood. I will have to check out another store.

    Transom repair question

Hi all, I’m looking for a little help with the transom repair. I just bought an old 16 ft aluminum boat, with a new 25hp etec. The transom is rotten. It is 2 layers of 3/4 plywood, not sure yet what it looks like between them. When i replace it, will i need to put one plywood on the outside...
