    Transom Replacement Material Options

Yeah, I agree it depends on what size motor your hanging on. I can say it worked excellent with my 1436 and 9.5 Evinrude. No flex. Will never rot or rust. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

    Transom Replacement Material Options

I used HDPE board for my old boat. Sandwiched two 3/4" pieces of it with aluminum in the middle. Stainless bolts. Kind of like cutting board material. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

    Eth in Non-Eth gas??

No, not really. Ethanol absorbs moisture from the air. Moisture then causes corrosion to all metals. Gas lasts way longer than 4 weeks buddy. Non ethanol fuel in my boat tanks and carbs sits on average 3 months every year with no issues with no stabilizer. Gas lasts about a year. Watch Project...

    Slow theft

I am all about testing products...but how many crooks are really using angle grinders and lock picks to steal boats? I would bet most are using some cheap bolt cutters? Need to ask a local officer or sheriff deputy. -Kurt

    Slow theft

Eventually if I ever get a boat that is worth stealing, I might pour a small concrete footer in the yard with a big fold down D ring in it. Then 3/4" chain the tongue to it with a commercial grade hardened padlock. Also boat insurance as said above. -Kurt

merc 20 hp 4 stroke carb issue

Hmm. Since you said the slow speed jet was clogged and you cleaned it, and it ran better, I bet the high speed jet or passage is partially clogged still. Don't know how else to explain running better with choke on at high idle, with the bowl full of fuel, with fuel getting purged out. Assuming...

merc 20 hp 4 stroke carb issue

What he said ^ . Also is the float needle attached to the float with a mini cotter pin? Maybe needle is getting stuck in up position? Not sure if those carbs have the little pins? -Kurt

merc 20 hp 4 stroke carb issue

Yes, that needle seat should screw out. Use a large flathead that fits, or you will strip the brass. Clean it good to be sure there is no crud keeping the needle from seating right. Look at the rubber tip on the needle. Make sure there is no groove warn into it. -Kurt

    1976 Polar Kraft

I have 2 of those 9.5's. That motor looks very clean. I would change the plugs to Champion J4C. Look at the plugs to see if they have rust just be sure water didn't get in the cylinders. I would spray some lubricant like Deep Creep in the cylinders too. Turn the motor over a few times, and let...

    Suggestions for decking

Home Depot or Lowes carries some cheap outdoor carpet in a few colors. Just cut to fit + a little outdoor carpet glue. I wouldn't go crazy, might be a PITA next time you replace the carpet. -Kurt

merc 20 hp 4 stroke carb issue

    1. Motor not peeing: Check to make sure the pee hole is clear. Dirt dobblers and other bugs will stop it up in no time flat. Run a wire or stick up it and spray a little water up in it. 2. Only starts on choke with carb cleaner: I have only worked on my 2 stroke, but if it was me, I would take...

    Eth in Non-Eth gas??

And I never run my carbs dry. They stay mostly full, so thar reduces the gas oxidizing and evaporating. -Kurt

    Eth in Non-Eth gas??

All fuel oxidizes and degrades when exposed to air, no matter what. Ethanol fuel absorbs moisture from the air, hence causing corrosion, and evaporation leaving that yellow crud. Apparently all the gas didn't get ran out of the carbs. Fuel stabilizers don't really work. I run non ethanol in my...

    1965 Johnson 18 HP Rebuild

Got the head off today. First attempt at drilling out broken bolts was marginal but it worked. Just have to get them out the block with the extractor set now. Pistons are not stuck! Soaking in Kroil now. The lower unit is coming off next. -Kurt
