Try and raise the fuel source above the motor. If it runs and doesnt die then its the fuel pump. If no changes, like it still dies, then carb. Maigjt be fuel connectors too..mayne get some clear fuel hose and watch for bubbles in the file system. Sent from my LG-M210 using Tapatalk

Take off the lower. Run a hose with a .25 inch adapter on the water pipe in the midsection. My guess is the rubber seal under the powered has swelled shut. Seen this a few times. Sent from my LG-M210 using Tapatalk

I don't see why it won't work. Motor is all the same more or less. Only changes are thermostat and pee hole. The shaft should be the same. Its a 2 stroke. I've read some folks have done the conversion of point to cdi. I actually like the old points motors. Sent from my LG-M210 using Tapatalk

Yup old age. Seen this with older mercury motors too. I will use a 3/8 clear hose to check water flow before installing a lower unit. I just put the hose on the water tube. Takes a second to make sure water passages are clear. Sent from my LG-M210 using Tapatalk

Try sticking a short piece of weed trimmer line in the pee hole while it running. Usually takes a minute or so before the tstat opens. You should have a flush port? On the side of the motor just below the powerhead. Unscrew run hose in hole see if it pees Sent from my LG-M210 using Tapatalk

turn the motor upside down, look to see if the water tube is bent, up near the power head. The tube is long and not very rigid and can at times become bent enough that the pump isnt going into the water tube. +1 on attaching a water hose to the water tube and see if you get water flow through...

personally i feel hondas are way overrated. best new motors, yamaha then nissan/tohatsu/merc best older motors yamaha, johnson/evinrudes. this is based on 15 hp or smaller. if i were to buy a new motor, i would go with the yammie. cant beat them. dino

i sold one for 900. it was in near mint condition and i had gone through the motor. carb cleaned, impeller changed, new lower oil and crush gaskets. motor is one of the best out there. dino
