    Stabilizer for Merc 60 4-stroke

Here's a thought. Go with the stabilizer but don't tell anyone you're doing it, and if you have any service/warranty issues, take the stabilizer off and never mention ever having one to the dealer, etc. That's what I'd do. Also, is there a chance you could be weighing that boat down a bit...

Anyone here own a Jet boat?

LOUD!!! And you WILL bang that sucker on rocks...not good. Regular old outboard jet for me. Since I've had mine, I've only had to actually stop one time to clean out the weeds. Most of the time, just watch for the weeds and steer to miss 'em.

    Is my boat too small?

If that's the case, then I'd add away! Just make sure you get a strong enough TM to pull it. 8)

    Is my boat too small?

What size motor do you plan on using, and what hp is the boat rated for? I'd be very careful about adding more than 50 lbs or so to the front of a boat that size, but if you take away the front bench, you could theoretically add the same amount of weight back to the front in the form of an...

Anyone here own a Jet boat?

As far as fuel economy goes, my new 4 stroke 60/40 Merc does very well indeed. My Dad has the 2 stroke version, and I get twice the mileage....no kiddin'!

Anyone here own a Jet boat?

60/40 means 60 hp at the head and 40 hp at the jet foot.

does 15hp really make that big of a differance?

P.S. At some point you'll have to weigh whether or not the cost/trouble of repairing your rig is worth it. You mentioned looking at jet boats, and as a jet boat owner, I can tell you I love mine, and it's worth every penny spent. I'm tighter than bark on a tree, but I haven't regretted that...

does 15hp really make that big of a differance?

Wow! Sounds to me like you probably have some weight issues with some rotting plywood (which I'm not a fan of in any boat...particularly in aluminum boats), and you may well have engine problems as well. I just can't see that some plywood on the decking could make the thing too heavy to...

does 15hp really make that big of a differance?

It depends. *The following is hypothetical as I realize there are no 240 hp engines available* If you have a 21' Ranger with a 225 hp Merc and a 21' Ranger with a 240 hp Merc, the difference in hp in terms of percentage is a little over 6%. A very minimal difference that would barely be...

Anyone here own a Jet boat?

I have a jet boat, and I know many, many fellas who have 'em. Snyder makes an EXCELLENT boat, but it is a bit more pricey than the boat I have. The main difference I can see between the Snyder boat and my Alumacraft is hull thickness. The Snyder is .125 ga and my Alumacraft is .102, but when...

Drafting questions/issues...need to draft even MORE shallow!

No guys. I'm perfectly fine with runnin' 4" of water ON PLANE, but I'd like to fix it so it will draft more shallow than 8". Sorry for the confusion. Thanks again! :D

Drafting questions/issues...need to draft even MORE shallow!

Hey gang. I'm an ultra-shallow river runner, and I have an Alumacraft with a new 4 stroke 60/40 Merc. I absolutely LOVE my rig because it's built like a tank, and has taken me anywhere I want to go. I don't know exactly how shallow it'll run on plane, but I KNOW it'll run in 4" of water (yes...

Post a Pic of your boat!

Hey guys...newbie here with my first post. :D Here's mine. She's a 2008 Alumacraft MV1650AW with a 2008 Merc 60/40 4 stroke JET. Since this pic, I've added 2 Lowrance X85's and a MinnKota Maxxum 70# thrust TM. I'm not sure how shallow she'll run exactly, but I KNOW she'll run in 4" of...
